Meteor sighting

I'm not sure if there's a designated section of the forum or a thread for reporting meteorite sightings, if there is please feel free to move/merge this post as appropriate. Thanks!

I wanted to take a moment to report the largest meteor I've ever seen. I saw it last night at approximately 7pm EST (Vermont). I was driving my car and happened to glance at the moon and right next to it, in the gathering dark I saw the end of a streak and an orange, yellow and red explosion, almost like fireworks. I rolled down my window quickly, but I couldn't hear the explosion.

Thanks Gandalf. I haven't reported it because I don't know where I would do so officially. I'll take a look in the local papers to see if anyone reported anything and I'll let you know.

I was unable to find any mention of this on the websites of our local newspapers or television stations. I'm not sure how big it was in the grand scheme of meteoric fireballs, and I live in a very rural area, so there are few people who might have seen it. I will keep an eye out and report any links I find.
