I think I just saw a meteor.
I was sitting out in the dark on my back porch having a smoke just now, watching what looked like a plane flying over. It was high enough so I couldn't hear it, I couldn't make out any flashing lights (only solid white) and it seemed really quite large and bright for a plane at that altitude. I lost sight of it as it passed behind a step of the stairs coming from the balcony above, and a tree branch. So I followed the trajectory, waiting for it to come out the other side (it should have appeared in twenty to thirty seconds) but it never came out. I went down into the middle of the yard where I could see much more of the sky to find that it had simply vanished. And there were not enough clouds to have hidden it for more than a few seconds at a time.
I'm not sure what it was or where it went, but it sure wasn't an airplane.
