My wife and I watched Moore's "Capitalism: A Love Story" yesterday - I couldn't find a thread about this one, so thought I'd start one here.
I never really watched Michael Moore's films and somehow always thought it's not worth it, but I must say I found this film really, really brilliant. And hugely depressing. Without naming it of course, I think Moore brings home the final stage of ponerization big time in this film. It's a very precise "snapshot" of a system that is totally corrupted by pathologicals that literally destroy people on all levels - financially, psychologically, physically and emotionally. They created a huge STS pipeline, sucking people dry. It's really heart-breaking.
The film was released when Obama took office, and it seems Moore was partly under the illusion that "change" is possible. But this only makes the movie more powerful IMO, because Moore wanted to end his film on a positive note, and we know how this played out. It's really so sad when he shows all those people that were inspired by Obama to actually start doing something positive, to get together in their communities and stand up to power, to see their long-held-back tears flow when Obama got elected, their hopes and courage. And then, as we know, Obama and the pathocrats delightfully stomped their boots in their hopeful faces, crushing everything, destroying with an evil laughter what was left of their hopes and human dignity... When they showed those happy Obama supporters, my wife was crying, saying "he betrayed them, he betrayed them all!" Heavy stuff, but really worth it I think, especially now in light of the elections and all that.
