Just saw this on RT earlier, im not sure what to make of it...for 1500 year old mummy, her boots seem to be very "modern looking... could be another case of high strangeness, or something else...

The rare and ancient discovery of a mummified woman in Mongolia has been overshadowed by an obsession with her footwear, as people liken the 1,500-year-old boots to a pair of Adidas sneakers.

Archaeologists unearthed the female’s remains on the Mongolian side of the Altai Mountains, more than 2,800 meters (9,186ft) above sea level.

Alongside the ice-preserved body, a number of artifacts including an iron kettle, pillows, cotton coats, and a sacrificed horse were found in what is believed to be an ancient Turkik burial site.

Researcher B Sukhbaatar told the Siberian Times that the grave is a “rare phenomenon”.

“It is the first complete Turkik burial at least in Mongolia - and probably in all Central Asia… These finds show us the beliefs and rituals of Turkiks,” he said.

Despite being a groundbreaking find, social media users have been busy wondering whether the woman was actually a time traveler with a penchant for sports footwear. Sounds plausible, right?

A picture of the corpse’s feet released by a Mongolian museum sparked the bizarre Adidas theory, with three lines resembling the German sport brand’s logo seen on a pair of tattered traditional shoes.

It would be interesting to see more photos of them. Most likely they're just well-made shoes, which wasn't impossible 1500 years ago.

I'm glad you're highlighting this article, Mr. Cyan, for I had come across some news on this archaeological discovery. RT gives a nice close up of the footwear.

I hadn't thought of the Adidas similarity but the workmanship of the footwear is remarkable in it's construction and "manufactured aspects". What first caught my eye was the white stitching around the front outer facing to hold the inner tongue of the footwear. I used a magnifying glass to get a closer look and was dumbfounded - not only of the consistent spacing between the stitches but the stitches themselves are uniform in nature - much the same affect - if I used a sewing machine with a sturdy heavy duty needle to penetrate the leather- like material.

I spent most of my childhood behind a sewing machine and even worked in sports manufacturing for a number of years, including employment in hand sewing on Bridal gowns and formal wear which is hand stitching. Even with my experience, I could never duplicate the stitching on the mummies footwear, unless I used a sewing machine.

Looking at the footwear's design, it's even more elaborately designed, than say - an Indian moccasin. (Made a couple pairs of those in Girl Scouts.) On the side panel, you'll notice - the toe is reinforced with an extra outer layer of material on the front. Past mid-point on the side, extra reinforcement is given for arch support and to protect the heel. It's a sturdy design.

I'm curious to learn - what clothing the Mummy is wearing and what the composition of the material might be?

Sometimes, I think, our generations are the one's trying to play "catch-up" to Civilizations before us, that were more advanced?

Thanks for the info and links to the enlarged pics angelburst29 - what struck me about the picture of the boots too, was how finely it was made considering it was 1500 years old. Something just keep niggling at the back of my mind when looking at the boots - and your experience with sewing certainly puts the workmanship of the boots in proper context now.

Similarly i too think that we are playing catch up with past civilizations. Another random thought I had as well - was what if she was a "time traveler" that passed away at that point - but she really was from another part of the time loop and "fell through" a portal and ended up there in Mongolia 1500 years ago ? Strange and interesting.
