I think this movie is a take off on reality in that the "monsters" live off the screams (fear) of children, just like our 4D lizzard friends live off our negative emotions. The monsters enter the children's rooms through dimensional doors, sort of like the TDARM technology that the lizzies and greys use.

I used to wonder whether some of the lizzies could come to like us, appreciate us in some way etc, and decide to go against the others to help us (too much imagination and wishful thinking, i know!) but then i realized: i like lambs, they are so cute, especially their little ones, and i do run and play with them if they let me. But that doesn't change the fact that lamb IS my favorite meat... :(
