I just viewed a wonderful documentary movie about Jeff Lynne entitled
"MR. BLUE SKY THE STORY OF JEFF LYNNE & ELO".
Here's a link...

I adore this man! He writes the most beautiful songs and is so humble about his mastery. :halo:
I grew up listening to his music but not knowing his name. Some of the most amazing melodies - Strange Magic, Telephone Line ... And, Xanadu, the movie, made me lose my mind as a child; Mainly due to Olivia Newton-John, but it's ELO's music that makes it magic!

Does anyone have any ELO stories they'd like to share?

Any favorites?

Mr. Blue Sky.

I like this song very much.

Lyrics
Sun is shinin' in the sky
There ain't a cloud in sight
It's stopped rainin' ev'rybody's in a play
And don't you know
It's a beautiful new day hey,hey

Runnin' down the avenue
See how the sun shines brightly in the city
On the streets where once was pity
Mister blue sky is living here today hey, hey

Mister blue sky please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
Where did we go wrong?

Hey you with the pretty face
Welcome to the human race
A celebration, mister blue sky's up there waitin'
And today is the day we've waited for

Hey there mister blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do
Ev'rybody smiles at you

Mister blue sky, mister blue sky
Mister blue sky

Mister blue, you did it right
But soon comes mister night creepin' over
Now his hand is on your shoulder
Never mind I'll remember you this
I'll remember you this way

Mister blue sky please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
Where did we go wrong?

Hey there mister blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do
Ev'rybody smiles at you
Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba
Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba

Mr. Blue Sky Is a cheerful song but has a background of sadness in these stanzas:

Mister blue, you did it right
But soon you come mister night creepin 'over
Now his hand is on your shoulder
Never mind I'll remember you this
I'll remember you this way

Mister blue sky please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
Where did we go wrong?

I relate them to the current situation that have the world on the verge of collapse due to politics and it seems that there is no turning back and maybe the atmosphere and the change of seasons that have inspired music and poetry, in a short time no longer Be the same in any part of the world.

Where did we go wrong?

Thank you so much for sharing the video, I watched a bit of it but mostly listened to the song.
Mister Blue and Mister Night are old friends for sure!
There is no turning back, yet as Gurdjieff pointed out, nothing really changes.
It can be in the darkest times that the most beautiful pieces of art are created.
This reminds me a bit of Smiling Faces by Gnarls Barkley... :) :D ;)

Cheers!

ELO has some great tracks. They were so successful through the mid-70's to the early-80's combining lush orchestration with Beatles-esque melodies and harmonies.

I think "Last Train to London" has remained my all-time fave ELO track. They capture the propulsive samba/disco type beat while still connecting Lynne's reflective, introspective lyrics.
