Mubarak hints: We’ll develop nukes...and more

Let me guess, the next thing will be is, that Israel will become really hysterial with all this "all arabs want to nuke us to hell" thing, and will justify it's use of nukes to be the first to pull the trigger.
What is going on? Why Mubarak decided to use this strategy, and why Iran suddenly says that it need it's nukes capability also for self defense. It's the same mumbling Israel uses all the time. And it obvious it will be used as a major excuse.

SHARM E-SHEIKH – Is Egypt declaring its intentions to develop nuclear weapons? Thus it appeared in a speech delivered by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Thursday on the occasion of meeting with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in Sharm e-Sheikh.

It seems to me that it will end with the destruction of the Middle East, and then the rest of the world from the fall out. Sorry to be so gloomy, but this whole thing has got me sort-of down. :(
