Mycological Saviors? TED Talk by Paul Stamets

A Disturbance in the Force
Six ways mushrooms can save the world

I thought of all ideas presented in this discussion was his argument against deforestation. Allowing old growth forests to remain using his irrefutable logic was groundbreaking. Also the impact of mycelium pesticides was the most frightening idea presented. Strict use/adherence should be advisable when using such methods. I for one was deeply moved by his passion for one of our planets precious species. This could help change the Earth for the better with serious conservation and innovation.

Paul Stamets is pretty remarkable. I took a seminar from him on growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms a few years back.
For anyone with an interest in mushrooms, I highly recommend his seminar - it was a wealth of information that covered all kinds of topics. The work he's done with fungi is amazing.
his site at fungi dot com is worth a look-see -

The sad and frightening part is that Stamets' work has been funded by and is now, for the most part, the intellectual property of the DoD. The weaponization of this technology is likely underway. One can only imagine the potential horrors that could come from this man's sincere research.

December last, my old dog was diagnosed with bladder cancer. I am told that it had been growing in her for at least five years. It is inoperable and her prognosis, due to the advanced stage of the tumor and her age was not good. February looked like the end of her days. I was having to sit on the floor and hand feed her. The only hope that the vets held out was for the use of an NSAID, which initially restored some semblance of functionality for the poor dog, but three weeks of it nearly killed her by causing renal failure.

At this point I had had it with allopathic cancer treatments and had begun researching newer alternative therapies, one of which was called beta glucan and incorporated polysaccharides derived from several species of mushroom, coupled with colostrum and Omega 3 cold water fish oils. The result was nothing less than miraculous. The dog returned to full activity within four days (as active as a 13 yo dog gets) and with the exception of difficulty in urination, due to the pressure put on the tubes from the kidneys to the bladder by the tumor, she is back to "normal" and exhibiting no sign of giving up the ghost any time soon.

After about three weeks I added laetrile to the regimen, in both apricot kernel and tablet amygdalin B-17 form, but noticed no quantifiable difference from the beta glucan therapy alone... aside from the triggering of a rather nasty skin allergy. Removing the laetrile cleared that up in a week or so, but I think that after reading G. Edward Griffin's book, A World Without Cancer, there is much to the laetrile therapies. They just did not work in our situation.

Here is a link, from the site which offers these mushroom and transfer factor products, to their page of the published science behind their mushroom therapies for use in cancer treatment (PDF files):

The species used in my dog's formulation are:
Agaricus blazei
Cordyceps sinensis hybrid
Lentnula edodes
Grifola frondosa
Ganoderma lucidum
Coriolus versicolor

Having seen the rapid favorable response in my dog, I would not hesitate to acquire these products for myself were I ever diagnosed with cancer. There is much within the mushrooms that western medicine has yet to learn. In Asia, this knowledge has been around for centuries.
