The Living Force
Snow has started, not supposed to be bad until this evening. They're predicting 2 feet of snow, coastal flooding and winds up to 60 mph near the coast.

Wow, it's been three years (I think) ago that we had a huge blizzard like that, on February 5-6, with a couple feet of snow. Even though the date is a few days off, that one started on a Friday also. Everyone be safe. :hug2:

It is snowing here, too. Only a dusting so far. The wind is also starting to pick up.

Everyone stay safe.

As part of the governor's state of emergency, they are banning all vehicles on all roads in the state of Massachusetts starting at 4 PM.

Snowing here in NYC. It wasn't sticking all day, but now it seems to be. Getting a lot actually. I'm enjoying it. Been a while since we had a good snow. Going to stay hold up in my apartment and cook a lot. :-)

We received 2 feet here in my part of CT, but other areas reported close to 3 feet. The governor closed the roads and there are no businesses open. ATM, I am just grateful that we retained power through this. The last number I heard was close to 38,000 outages in CT. Apparently it is going to get very cold tonight and my thoughts are with those without heat. I hope the members here who were hit by this are safe and warm. :hug2:

We had power the whole time in North Central Mass. Looks like the worst of it was southeast of here and along the coasts. 400,000 houses had power outages. Luckily it was cold the whole time so there wasn't ice and freezing rain that would bring down more trees and branches.

Hope everyone takes good care.

Have never heard language used in snow storms like "banning". Usually there are advisories, recommendations or notifications of road closures etc. People should use common sense and stay off the roads, yet there may be reasons and "banning" seems heavy handed. If found out on a road, would one be subjected to arrest as implied? Just curious.

This hasn't happened since the blizzard of '78. But the police weren't going to enforce it, it was announced to impart the seriousness of the situation. I think some if has to do with the fact that the governor, Deval Patrick, grew up in Chicago where the political careers of mayors were made or broken by how they dealt with blizzards. A couple of mayors lost their next election because they underplayed a snowstorm and were blamed for the mess.

They can be serious situations and nudging people with strong comments can help, and as you've pointed out about loosing elections on how they dealt with things like snowstorms is interesting and may explain exactly why that term that was used, just never heard it before - thanks for the explanation.

Wow! What a blast!

We've been hit by it yesterday in Montréal as well. The wind was terrible.

Hope everything went fine for everyone!

Sounds like it was a whopper. Hope everyone is OK.

We talked to some relatives in Waltham, MA last night, and everyone is OK and no one lost electricity.

Stay safe everyone.

Looked at some photos from the storm, along with the winds, things look to have been well buried - hang in there folks.

There were no power outages where I'm located, thankfully. A friend came to dig out my truck for me this morning and while I was getting the shovel out of my truck, I sank above my knees in the snow. I measured it and it was around 21". Not that much when you consider those countries like Norway, Sweden, Finland and such. But quite a bit all at once for us New Englanders I guess.

I'm just sorry for those who are having to get through this ordeal without power.
