New Job

The Living Force
Hi everyone:

I just wanted to post about an event earlier this week.

I went to rent a movie at my local video store- Rogers. When I got to the store, there was a young man around 16 working. He was chatting with his friend at the counter and it was not busy in the store at all.

I asked him if the certain movie was in and he said no! He didn’t check the computer or anything. I decided to go and rent another movie and as I headed towards the movies, he turned toward me and said, “Actually, the movie came in about 20 minutes ago, it should be on the shelf.” I acknowledged, thinking that was really strange, since he could have said that to begin with. Than, as I began looking for it on the shelf, I couldn’t find it. At this point he was on the phone with what seemed to be another friend. I asked him to come help me but he seemed very occupied, I said I couldn’t find the movie on the shelf and asked if he was sure it was not over the counter. He said it wasn’t. I left the store because I seemed to be getting no help from him, and he seemed very rude.

The next day, I called the manager and spoke to her about what happened to me. She was very apologetic and asked me to come in and offered to give me the movie for free. When I went in, I spoke with her about good customer service and she told me how he was very new and that this was his first job, and that she was in the process of hiring new staff. Since I happened to be looking for a job at the moment I asked if she would consider hiring me, since we had a great conversation about customer service. She said definitely, bring me a resume! I happened to have one in the car, since I was going job hunting earlier in the day, and I gave it to her and ended up getting the job.

During the interview, she asked me if I thought it was going to be weird/awkward if I was to work with Cassidy (the boy’s name) and I said not at all. Because I am good at my job and I do my work well, if he is going to be slacking off, he will be the one feeling awkward.

I start work Thursday and that’s the approach I’m going to be taking with this job. To take it as a challenge, and not an awkward situation or anything like that. I actually think it’s kind of funny, because I took what seemed to be a negative situation at first and turned it into a positive one.

So yay I found a job!

Congrats on the new job Deedlet

He probably checked the computer after he told you no and then realized it was showing in stock after all, but he still had no clue where it was.

I've worked various retail stores for over 16 years and even now that I'm not in retail, I still work with the public. I love working with people. Theres always something new bound to happen. I've also worked with "Cassidys" before. They wanna do nothing and collect a paycheck for it. Not to mention that while he was on the phone, customers could have been trying to call and getting a busy signal if its only one main line. Kinda inconsiderate huh? Hes probably gonna feel like his job is threatened when he sees you go in and start actually working.

Good for you making the most out of a bad experience Deedlet! Best of luck with everything and you show that kid how its done! ;D

Congrats! Finding a job in that way is rather unusual I think...it seems there was a bit of synchronicity going on. Best of luck with the new job! :)

I'm so happy for you!! :) That's really interesting the way it happened. I hope I can find a job soon, too.

Congrats on the job, Deedlet! There are no coincidences :)

Hi everyone:

Thank you all. Yes, the way I got this job kind of left me feeling as if I was somehow "playing into destiny's hands" i.e. I also felt that it was very weirdly synchronous, dare I say coincidental ;)

That's why my attention will be doubled while working. Always keeping my eyes open, but I hope everything will go well

Congrats deedlet! That was a pretty cool story and funny how you had your resume in the car :) One thing I really like about my new job is that it is a fresh start. I have to remain vigilant so as not to make the same mistakes I made at my last one, like getting too personal and sharing too much information. To fresh starts :headbanger: Rock on!

Hi Deedlet. Congrats!

Looks like a rather decent example of taking a lemon handed to you and turning it into lemonade! :)
