New look at computer

The Living Force
Bioengineer at Stanford University have developed a synchronous processor that uses electrons instead of moving water droplets.
The new computer will be able to perform the same operations as usual electronic computer, but much slower.

Quote from the article:
"But this is not the goal of computational speed, because the goal of the team to manipulate materials, not information."

Thanks, that was fascinating! But shouldn't it read: "that uses moving water droplets instead of electrons." ;)

Oooooo my english :-[

Casper,

I found this idea of manipulating matter faster to be very interesting. In the article they say:

The work is so fundamental and yet simple that apart from its most obvious use – as a chemical or biological laboratory, – it could lead to the exploration of the physics of computation becoming common.

The applications for this could make the drug companies and chemical/bio warfare minded salivate I think. Or if there were any STO minded it could be used for healing applications and non-toxic fertilizers etc...

I am not sure how it applies to "the physics of computation" unless you could make it faster by using a more efficient medium than water as is already being done with different types of micro-chips.

Thanks for sharing. :)

About the same we thought :) :) :)
