New study that claim vaccines are not associated with autism

The Force is Strong With This One
I'm not sure what to make of this story.

Damage control from the PTB?

Seems that this story is carried by several mainstream media and become quite popular. So far I haven't found anyone reviewing or debunking this article, so I think its important for SOTT to carry this news with some commentary on it.

  • There was no relationship between vaccination and mercury (Hg) (OR: 1.00; 95% CI: 0.93 to 1.07).
  • Findings of this meta-analysis suggest that vaccinations are not associated with the development of autism or autism spectrum disorder.

Abstract
There has been enormous debate regarding the possibility of a link between childhood vaccinations and the subsequent development of autism. This has in recent times become a major public health issue with vaccine preventable diseases increasing in the community due to the fear of a ‘link’ between vaccinations and autism. We performed a meta-analysis to summarise available evidence from case-control and cohort studies on this topic (MEDLINE, PubMed, EMBASE, Google Scholar up to April, 2014). Eligible studies assessed the relationship between vaccine administration and the subsequent development of autism or autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Two reviewers extracted data on study characteristics, methods, and outcomes. Disagreement was resolved by consensus with another author. Five cohort studies involving 1,256,407 children, and five case-control studies involving 9920 children were included in this analysis. The cohort data revealed no relationship between vaccination and autism (OR: 0.99; 95% CI: 0.92 to 1.06) or ASD (OR: 0.91; 95% CI: 0.68 to 1.20), or MMR (OR: 0.84; 95% CI: 0.70 to 1.01), or thimerosal (OR: 1.00; 95% CI: 0.77 to 1.31), or mercury (Hg) (OR: 1.00; 95% CI: 0.93 to 1.07). Similarly the case-control data found no evidence for increased risk of developing autism or ASD following MMR, Hg, or thimerosal exposure when grouped by condition (OR: 0.90, 95% CI: 0.83 to 0.98; p = 0.02) or grouped by exposure type (OR: 0.85, 95% CI: 0.76 to 0.95; p = 0.01). Findings of this meta-analysis suggest that vaccinations are not associated with the development of autism or autism spectrum disorder. Furthermore, the components of the vaccines (thimerosal or mercury) or multiple vaccines (MMR) are not associated with the development of autism or autism spectrum disorder.

Thank you for sharing yanz. My first impression was, when reading the title that it could only be a meta study and giving huge numbers, makes it easier to believe for the audience, since they "studied" 1,256,407 children. Of course, the devil is then in the details and unfortunately the study is not publicly accessible so it is makes it harder to judge, what for studies they analyzed and so on. Personally I think it will be damage control and most likely cause a higher debate again, so this study could unfortunately be interpreted: this is the final truth and may cause too that vaccination in general is safe to do.

Yup, this was on the news here last night. It seems like damage control (I haven't looked at the details of the study), but the news report was so condescending and fearful (i.e blaming supposedly increasing rates of measles on parents who are opting not to vaccinate)

From the latest WAPF Journal:

AUTISM-THIMEROSAL CONNECTION

In February of this year, through a Freedom of Information request, Dr. Brian Hooker finally obtained long-awaited data from the Centers for Disease Control proving the connection between the mercury-based preservative thimerosal in vaccines. According to Hooker, the data on over four hundred thousand infants born between 1991 and 1997, which were analyzed by CDC epidemiologist Thomas Verstraeten, MD, “proved unequivocally that in 2000, CDC officials were informed internally of the very high risk of autism, nonorganic sleep disorder and speech disorder associated with thimerosal exposure.” The CDC still maintains that there is “no relationship between thimerosal-containing vaccines and autism rates in children” (PRWeb, February 19 2014).

This element is a complex metal that has much visual imagery associated with it, but the traditional alchemical symbol is the most iconic. The association with the planet Mercury (and hence astrology) is perhaps where many people will have seen this symbol used before. The dragon or serpent in the background is derived from early alchemical drawings and is often seen in association with the element.

***Hmm... "Dragon or Serpent"

Mercury has fascinated people for millennia, as a heavy liquid metal that can be extracted easily by heating cinnabar, a red ore (mercury sulfide). Mercury is known to be dangerous in all its forms, and use is now confined to industry in the manufacture of chlorine and sodium hydroxide, although even here it is being phased out. Some is still used to treat seed corn to make it resistant to fungus disease, and in street lighting, dental amalgam and electrical apparatus. Older uses - in thermometers, in felt production and as a de-worming powder - have all been superseded. Mercury is widespread in the environment - every mouthful of food we eat contains a little. Our daily intake is about 0.01 milligramme (about a 0.3 grammes in a lifetime), and this we can cope with easily. However, one form of mercury - methylmercury - is particularly dangerous; it can be formed by micro-organisms in polluted waters, absorbed by fish and so eaten by people.

*** "Mercury is known to be dangerous in all its forms"

Mercury easily forms alloys, called amalgams, with other metals such as gold, silver and tin. Its ease in amalgamating with gold is made use of in recovering gold from its ores. It is used in the manufacture of sodium hydroxide and chlorine by electrolysis of brine. The metal is widely used in making advertising signs, mercury switches and other electrical apparatus. It is used in laboratory work for making thermometers, barometers, diffusion pumps and many other instruments. Other uses are in pesticides, dental work, batteries and catalysts. Because of its toxicity, all these uses are being phased out or are under review. Some mercury salts and organic mercury compounds are still important, including mercurous chloride (calomel), which is used in electrolysis, and mercuric sulfide (wermilion), a high-grade paint pigment.

*** " The metal is widely used in making advertising signs, mercury switches and other electrical apparatus. AND Other uses are in pesticides, dental work, batteries and catalysts."

Mercury has no known biological role. It is a virulent poison, readily absorbed through the respiratory tract, the gastrointestinal tract or through the skin. It is a cumulative poison and dangerous levels are readily attained in air. It is now always handled with the utmost care.

*** " Soooooooo.....Mercury has no known biological role. It is a virulent poison, readily absorbed through the respiratory tract, the gastrointestinal tract or through the skin. It is a cumulative poison and dangerous levels are readily attained in air. It is now always handled with the utmost care.

*** Yep, This must be good for babies! and Then over and over again for that a cumulative effect!

*** Could you really imagine what would happen "IF" they came out and said, "It wasn't good for us after all."

Along with what Gawan mentions about the type of study done, I also think that this is about damage control. You can see it every time in all sorts of areas. The more truth comes out about a topic, the more the damage control machine rolls into motion. Especially about vaccines there have been coming out so many reports, articles, personal stories, and studies that the PTB might have thought that the usual fear-mongering via doctors, health institutions and ads isn't enough and thus coming at it from another angle, only this time clad in seemingly scientific clothing - which isn't the first time either.

And then, it's not even necessary for it to be a "conscious" move by the PTBs, it can just as well be a bunch of scientists still heavily invested in the 'good of vaccines' and acting in good faith. That they'd promptly receive fundings for a study tailored to securing an outcome that keeps pouring money into Big Pharma is a of course a given, and at least at this point there would be a deliberate agenda involved.

For the record, the study's been debunked: "More Pseudo Science "Vaccines do not cause Autism Study...", from here _http://autismrawdata.net/1/post/2014/05/more-pseudo-science-vaccines-do-not-cause-autism-study.html

This highly controversial study is considered the most important by people who reject any link between thimerosal and ASD, yet it is fraught with severe limitations, methodological weaknesses and questionable analyses. Data collected from the HMO‘s was repeatedly re-analyzed at least five times across three years of study. During that time, entry criteria were changed, children too young to have an ASD diagnosis were added, and other questionable methods of analysis were used. The relative risk for autism fell from 11.35 to zero during that time. As for other NDDs, even the lead author wrote that this was a neutral study and could not be used to support or refute a link.

Thanks for sharing Aiming.

That was a quite extensive review.

I also found that SOTT already carry the story mentioned by LQB here: http://www.sott.net/article/274487-CDC-caught-hiding-data-showing-mercury-in-vaccines-linked-to-autism
