New Zealand Politics in disarray

Lots of chaos currently in New Zealand, some 6 weeks out from a general election.

First we had the leader of the Labor party resign after a huge fall in the polls and an interview when he said that winning the election with a slim majority using minor parties would mean a lack of credibility. He was replaced by his deputy leader, a mid thirties woman who is making a pretty good fist of things in her first week.

Second we have the Green party imploding. The co-leader admitted to election fraud and benefit fraud as an election strategy, supposedly to focus attention on the issue of poverty in the country. That badly backfired and a few minutes ago, she resigned as co-leader, after 2 MPs resigned from the party, after refusing to resign just 24 hours ago.

Finally we have the Prime Minister who appears to be involved in a scandal around the MP who replaced him in his old electorate and who appears to have been secretly taping conversations with a party worker in the electoral office. It appears the PM had sent more than 450 texts to the party worker, which he now claims to have deleted and which he refuses to discuss.

It is going to be a messy and chaotic time leading up to the election it seems.
