Newborn baby shots

We could be having a newborn within the next 24 hours. My plan is to refuse all vaccines. I am planning on refusing the vitamin K shot too, but I wanted to check to see what you all think. I am going to do the supplement recommendation in this thread: "One milligram per day for 10 weeks for mother provides a cumulative extra 1 milligram to her infant over the important period and seems reasonable." http://cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php/topic,9143.msg69210.html

Is there anything else I should watch out for? Thanks.

Watch out for hospital admin conducting vacs anyway. If they insist badly, give them a way out by saying something like "I'll consider vaccination at a later date, but not for a newborn".

I think LQB's suggestion of answer is a good one. That's the one we gave as well.

I don't know how it is in your country, but in mine, once the mother has delivered the baby, she is taken to her bedroom while the baby is cared for by a nurse (washed, etc.). So, instead of staying with me, my husband told the doctor and nurse he would stay with the baby, so he could see what they were doing (i.e. make sure they were not doing sth being our backs) and reassure our baby with his voice. So maybe you can try and do that too?

If this is not routine, you can ask to have the baby sleep in the same room as the mother (in a little bassinet next to her bed). Yes, mummy needs to rest (usual hospital staff excuse to bring baby far from the mother) but baby needs to be reassured and to bond with mummy. Bonding comes from being close, skin to skin and from nursing (which in turn produces oxytocin, the 'love' hormone).

The baby will stay with me at all times. I will be extra vigilant about them trying to sneak in any shots. The hospital we use has the baby stay in a little crib next to the mother.

I also remember some solution they use to wash the eyes of the newborn. Is that ok?

Thank you for the suggestions!

Could that be the antibiotic solutions/ointments, like silver nitrate for example? From what I have read, hospitals seem to use that routinely on newborns(could also inflammate the eye for some days). To me it sounds like a no-go.

But I am certain other members can advice you further on this matter.

The stuff they use to wash out the eyes is OK as it is a silver compound to clean out the eyes and prevent any infections. It has been used for many years for this and there are no reported problems because of it.

I agree. The silver nitrate drops are fine and probably quite useful for protecting the eyes.

... and no reported bacterial resistance problems so far, too!

We had a healthy baby boy earlier today. No shots, no circumcision. We started vitamin K drops. For the eyes, the nurse put some kind of antibiotic cream. We are still trying to decide on a name. I did suggest Ark among other names but was shot down on all of them.

Ark's name is Arkadiusz AKA Arkady.

It is 2am and so we are sleep deprived, and having to make decisions. The nurse and lab wanted to test the baby for Crohn's disease, by taking the baby's blood through poking the foot. We decided to decline, until we had to a chance to ask the forum and at least speak to our pediatrician about this.

This testing could be harmful like a vaccine, or unnecessary like a vitamin K shot when less harmful alternatives are available. At the moment just trying to avoid attack from lack of awareness.

After we refused blood testing before speaking with our pediatrician, the hospital contacted the pediatrician group and spoke to the doctor on call. Our pediatrician is the head of the group, and not the doctor on call. The doctor on call wanted the blood test done immediately so that results were ready for our pediatrician when she arrives in the morning. We declined blood testing and said we will speak to pediatrician first.

The hospital wanted to test for Coombs, not Crohn's. Also, due to our refusal to draw blood, the lab technician brought in a medical testing instrument that uses light to detect for jaundice instead of drawing blood. We allowed testing with this instrument and the result was no jaundice.

I can only imagine the less invasive methods that are readily available but not regularly used for all these medical procedures.

We met with our pediatrician. It turns out in this state that there is "mandatory" metabolic and genetic testing via blood testing. The pediatrician was insistent that we get the metabolic testing, so we agreed. They will test do the jaundice testing at the same time as the metabolic testing.

So it was good that we did not allow the blood test in middle of the night, because that would have been two separate times of blood tests instead of just one.

Congratulations on the birth of your boy! After some careful research, I too decided not to vaccinate my children, and I'm glad I made that choice. The pharmaco-medical propaganda here is such that people get hysterical at those who choose not to vaccinate, but the irony of it all is that, theoretically it is their kids who could be a threat to yours by way of contracting contagious diseases, and not vice versa as their children are theoretically 'protected' by the vaccine. (I say theoretically because there is much evidence based research to show that vaccines can be very dangerous). So I practiced external consideration and generally never made it public knowledge that I had opted not to vaccinate. I agree that immunising children is important; it's just that my idea of immunising my children was by way of breast milk till the age of two, colloidal silver and herbs like echinacea when they had colds.

Mind you, I had to go through all sorts of hell by way of seeing a doctor to get him to sign a conscientious objection form so that my kids would be able to go to school. Our govt here keep a database of all the vaccinated and unvaccinated people. Big brother is always watching
