Nightmare

The Living Force
I have had 2 nightmares in as many nights. I need some help trying to understand what they might mean:

From the first I can barely recall anything. Chose to ignore it and only register it was a nightmare but since I have had another one aswell, I figured maybe they might be connected.

The 2nd dream starts off with me and two of my friends walking along a road. It is nighttime. It is an isolated road, we are the only ones there. One of my friends notices, there is someone on the opposite side of the road behind us, who has been following us. He is comouflaged with a dark hoody. He crosses the road and my friends get agitated and decide to run despite my insistence that, they might be misreading the situation. Anyways, I run aswell and the person starts chasing us. At this point we are in full flight, running as fast as we can, but the guy chasing us is still on our tail. My 2 friends discuss between each other and come up with a plan, I am not really paying attention, the only thing I hear is something to do with an upcoming turn. Next thing I know, they take the turn and I am left running alone down the road. I look behind and notice that the guy in the black hoody is still on me and hasnt followed the other two. This time I notice he is carrying what I can only describe as a battle axe. A big battle axe.

Luckily I manage to lose him and get back home. Home here is a house I have never been to before in a field that is new to me, but nonetheless I know it is home. I am living with some of my current student housemates.

I get in and I am trying to catch my breath when I hear the door bell ring, I get agitated, frozen in fear that I don't tell my housemate not to open it. Anyways, as he goes to open it, an axe comes through it and brings it down. At this point, I dont stand around, I run straight up the stairs, into my housemates room, open up his window and get out and jump onto the roof and hide behind a chimney, balanced precariously trying not to fall off the ledge by the chimney. It gets abit weird here because the design of the house is abit weird, I didnt take time to examine it, out his window, it looked like a fairly long way down, directly out the view to the right was a roof that projected out and along that roof was a chimney with a ledge around it. That is where I was hiding.

Anyways, I am hiding there, really scared, I am tense, hoping that the guy doesnt find me. I am as quiet as I can be. I then notice 2 goats walking in the field. One is an adult goat and another a baby goat. I assume parent and child. A dog, maybe fox or an animal that looks similar appears onto the scene and attacks both animals and kills them! It doesnt really eat them. It was a weird scene, here I am on the roof hiding and here there is this other scene playing out right infront of my eyes. It kind of skins them or something and inserts its teeth into them so that it leaves puncture wounds behind and I assume eats somethings from them, then leaves the 2 dead corpses behind.

At this point, eventhough this is a horrific scene playing out infront of me, it doesnt scare me as much as the guy wielding the axe does. AM still staying on that ledge. I look up into the sky and here is where I see the weirdest thing ever. I see planets. Like alot of them. They are so close it is scary. They are so big that you can see the land mass and atmosphere clearly. I clearly make out saturn because of its rings but the rest I had no idea what they were. I tried looking for jupiter because I know it is somewhere round there aswell and it is big but couldnt see it. Then I see this blue planet. Look so much like earth that I am so confused, I mean, it might aswell have been earth. I mean, the night sky was alive with this humonguos planets spread out across the sky, that they make the moon look like a relatively distant ball, from our perspective here on earth.

Anyways at this point, the axeman has found me and is slashing away at the ledge. I barely move my feet before the axe lands down. I am completely terrified. Next thing I know we are in the house and he is explaining why he is trying to kill me. He says that, he is angry because someone has been 'raping' his girlfriend repeatedly - this is weird and random but that is what he said, I am not sure if he is accusing me or if he just wanted to take out his anger on whoever. I am shocked to say the least because I havent done any such thing.

Next scene, our other housemate goes to look out from the front door, but still from inside the house and notices the big blue planet up in the sky and is amazed, perplexed, in shock. I tell him he hasnt seen anything yet, I tell him he should walk out and scan the whole sky because it is dotted by such huge objects. We both do that and for acouple of minutes we are just staring at this planets up there in awe. Then the sky goes black and everything returns back to as it should be. With distant tiny twinkling stars, no moon was present.

At this point I get up and notice I am sweating, infact drenched in sweat, shaking and shivering. I have a sneezing attack because of the cold.

Hi Luke

I use to have dreams like this (with something chasing me) all the time....usually the sky would be strange, or a storm would come (followed by UFO's/lights/multicoloured snow etc) or 'something' would spook me...and I'd go hide inside the house....if it chased me inside I'd do the same as you and exit through and upstairs window onto the roof....if that failed I'd jump from roof to roof or even fly to avoid 'it'.

I may be wrong, but I've noticed that these dreams stopped showing up for me since the dietary changes....and only now show up if I eat something I shouldn't have or I am inflamed for some reason.
That is not to say it wasn't something else that happened....but the way you woke up sounds like a strong immune/inflammatory response to something.
If our immune system is fighting ourself....it can show up in our dreams as 'being chased/attacked' it seems.

The other thing about 'running from attacker' dreams is that of avoiding emotional issues....not wishing to feel a past trauma perhaps.

Hi Luke,

Your dream has the dark man theme. You may want to consider that while on the roof you were shown the crux of the matter:

Goats (representing willpower and perseverance) were attacked by a predator.

Others forumites may have greater insight.

Ah thank you redfox. Well, I have not got up drenched in sweat, shaking and shivering due to a dream in eons. Neither have I ever had such physiological responses to a nightmare in nearly forever. Infact, a nightmare for me is a rare thing. I rarely experience fear in dreams, so this was a 1st for me, atleast in acouple of years. Might be due to diet as you say. This last week, I have been cutting corners because of major time issues, being a student, have been living in the library day and night trying to finish off work, so have been buying some packaged food, like sandwiches for lunch, drinking soft drinks and taking some chocolate aswell during the day. At night, I have been eating as normal but the hours have been off. Some nights I have even gone to bed without eating due to the late hour of arrival at home. All this I suppose might have an effect in the dreamworld. Thank you for that.

On the question of diet, I know this is the wrong place. I have been having this burning feeling in my stomach now for acouple of days. I am thinking it is due to a fruit. I have been eating alot of kiwis of late - never really ever used to have them before. Could that be a cause? This might be an indication to the 'attacker' aspect of the dream, maybe... It feels like a warm sort of feeling, maybe acidic imbalance.

Thanks in advance.

Gluten (wheat - in the bread) and aspartame (the sweetener in soft drinks, may also be called sucralose) have a damaging effect on the brain (amongst other things).
Stress and a disrupted sleep pattern will aggravate things...but the main culprit is those above. I've read of people getting night sweats with aspartame.

Once you have time to explore these things, it may be worth checking out some of the recommendations on the diet and health section...although being a student may limit what you can change, you should still be able to avoid gluten.

Here you are an excerpt from the book Women Who Run With The Wolves with the dark man theme:

"The natural predator of the psyche is not only found in fairy tales but also in dreams. There is a universal initiatory dream, one so common that it is remarkable if a person has reached age 25 without having had such a dream. The dream usually causes the person to jolt awake, striving and anxious. The dream usually involves being in a house with danger outside or darkness outside. The dreamer is frightened and frantically tries to obtain assistance. Suddenly, they realize the danger is virtually on top of them, or right with them, or cannot be overcome or avoided, or that they have lost. The dreamer awakens instantly, breathing hard, heart pounding.

"There is a strong physical aspect to having a dream of the predator. The dream is often accompanied by sweats, struggles, hoarse breathing, heart pounding, and sometimes crying and moans of fear. We could say the dream-maker has dispensed with subtle messages to the dreamer and now sends images which shake the neurological and autonomic nervous system of the dreamer, thereby communicating the urgency of the matter.

"The antagonists of the 'dark dream' are, in people's own words, 'terrorists, rapists, thugs, concentration camp Nazis, marauders, murderers, criminals, creeps, bad men, thieves.' There are several levels to the interpretation of the dream..."

"Often such a dream is a reliable indicator that a person's consciousness is just beginning to gain awareness of the innate psychic predator...."

"The dream is a harbinger; the dreamer has just discovered or is about to discover and begin liberating a forgotten and captive function of the psyche.

"The dark man dream tells a person what predicament they are facing. The dream tells about a cruel attitude toward the dreamer. Like Bluebeard's wife, the dreamer can consciously gain hold of the 'key' question about this matter and answer it honestly, and can then be set free. ...

"The dark man appears in dreams when an initiation - a psychic change from one level of knowing and behavior to another more energetic level of knowledge and action is imminent. The initiation creates an archway which one prepares to pass through to a new manner of knowing and being....

"Dreams are 'portales,' entrances, preparations, and practices for the next step in consciousness.

"Dark man dreams are wake-up calls. They say: Pay attention! Something has gone radically amiss in the outer world. ....The threat of the 'dark man dreams' serves as a warning to all of us -- if you don't pay attention, something will be stolen from you! The dreamer needs to be initiated so that whatever has been robbing her can be recoginzed, apprehended, and dealt with.

"In the Bluebeard story we see how a woman who falls under the spell of the predator rouses herself and escapes him, wiser for the experience. The story is about transformation through knowledge, insight, voice, decisive action. We must unlock the secrets and use our abilities to be able to stand what we see. And then, we must use our voice and our wits to do what needs to be done about what we see. When instincts are strong, we intuitively recognize the innate predator by scent, sight, and hearing... we anticipate its presence, hear it approaching, and take steps to turn it away. In the instinct-injured (i.e. nuts and bolts person) the predator is upon them before they register its presence. We have been taught to be nice, to behave, to be blind, and to be misused. [We have been hypnotized to give up our flesh and skins.]

"The young and the injured are uninitiated. Neither knows much about the dark predator and are, therefore, credulous. But, fortunately, when the predator is on the move, it leaves behind unmistakable tracks in dreams. These tracks eventually lead to its discovery, capture and containment.

"Wild Ways teaches people when not to act 'nice' about protecting their souls. The instinctive nature knows that being 'sweet' in these instances only makes the predator smile. When the soul is being threatened, it is not only acceptable to draw the line and mean it, it is required."

Luke, have you been doing EE?

Thanks for the post Ana, didnt actually know what dark man dreams were until today, did some searching after jerry said my dream had elements of it and saw that bit referenced in the wave series in one of the chapters.

Dont want to make any excuses, but since last week, things have been abit crazy in my life that I literally have had no time to attempt to do EE. Was living day and night in the library and computer labs doing school work, which thankfully is now done so I AM going to do EE. Fatigue is my no.1 enemy when it comes to EE, I usually prefer doing it before sleep but sometimes that is the WORST time because then one is to tired and the will is next to zero.

I think I get your point though, maybe the dream was a warning of some sort.

I will be DOING EE. Will Power and Perseverance.

Go on Luke! As you make room in your life for that wich really helps, things will start to change. Remember EE can also help you with fatigue.
