Israel: Few months to avoid nuclear Iran

Reuters
Published: 09.17.06, 21:06

Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said on Sunday that the world may have as little as "A few months" to avoid a nuclear Iran and called for sanctions.

"The crucial moment is not the day of the bomb. The crucial moment is the day in which Iran will master the enrichment, the knowledge of enrichment," she said on CNN's "Late Edition."

Livni, whose country is the only Middle East power possessing nuclear weapons, said she did not want to identify a point of "No return" in the controversy over Iran's nuclear program.

The Iranians, she said, "Are trying to send a message that it's too late, you can stop your attempts because it's too late. It's not too late. They have a few more months," She said.

"The world cannot afford a nuclear Iran," Livni said. "I believe that this is time for sanctions."

Iran, whose president last year called for Israel to be "Wiped off the map," denies it is seeking nuclear weapons.

'Maybe Abbas can be strengthened'

Livni said Israel would like to help strengthen the more moderate elements within the Palestinian Authority-such as President Mahmoud Abbas-at the expense of the militant Hamas movement, which swept to power after winning January elections.

Livni called on the international community to unite to make Hamas take certain steps as a prelude to talks. She did not specify the steps, but did mention Israel's demand that Hamas release an Israeli soldier captured in June.

"If the international community shows determination in the next few weeks, maybe this is the moment in which Abu Mazen can be strengthened and Hamas will have to do something," she said, referring Abbas.

Abbas and Hamas, which seeks Israel's destruction, accused each other on Sunday of trying to derail a planned unity government that Palestinian officials hope will lift Western sanctions imposed after Hamas' election victory.

Abbas and Livni will both be in New York to attend the UN General Assembly in the coming week.

The United Nations Purchases Anti-Nuclear Suits From Radiation Shield Technologies

CORAL GABLES, Fla., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Radiation Shield Technologies, Inc. (RST) announced today that it was awarded an international tender issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Under this tender, the IAEA has agreed to purchase Anti-Nuclear Full Body suits from the Miami, FL based Radiation Shield Technologies, Inc. The suits will be used by United Nations Development Program in Belarus under Project 9012 aimed at Strengthening the System of Emergency Preparedness and Response to Radiation Emergencies.

The tender called for, "Radiation shielding coveralls constructed with an integrated hood and heat sealed seams for full body radiation protection." RST responded to and was awarded this solicitation by offering its full body Demron(TM) suits. Demron(TM) is the first and only proprietary fabric that has been shown to be effective against all forms of radiation. Current Nuclear Biological Chemical (NBC) suits offer no protection against ionizing radiation and with the eminent threat of a dirty bomb or other radiological dispersal device (RDD), agencies are beginning to look for ways to protect their first responders against nuclear radiation.

Initial discussions have begun to provide this garment to other participating IAEA member states within this project. Tex Clark, Director of Business Development, for RST stated, "Belarus is just 1 of 22 member states operating within this project. This is an excellent opportunity to expand the global reach of RST's operations." While nations including the United States, France, Germany, and England are purely observers for this project committee, there are 22 actively participating nations within central and Eastern Europe.

As some of you know, I am particularly concerned about nuclear war on the horizon, particularly now as things seem to be heating up in North Korea. I live beside a major military target, unfortunately. I have been told many times that the planned trigger for WW3 is NK attacking SK, then US and China stepping in to bolster defense of South and North, respectively. And that is to start the cyclone, so it is said.
I am sharing some health protection information I got recently from World Affairs Brief news subscription.

From June 30th letter:
PREPAREDNESS TIP: NUCLEAR WAR SURVIVAL SKILLS by Andrew Skousen
Americans have not cared about building personal shelter protection against nuclear attack since the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 created enough media uproar about an impending nuclear weapon attack to scare both private people and public agencies to build some basic shelters. All of these shelters have since been mocked as a product of “paranoia” in history. Any public effort at civil defense has also been scuttled using the “fall of the Soviet Union” as justification. As this brief has carefully documented, however, the threat of a nuclear attack on the United States and its allies is not only still real, it has been increasing since JFK gave in to Khrushchev, and now there is virtually no protection for civilians unless they implement it for themselves (as the insiders, who know what is coming, are doing).

If you have any doubts about an impending nuclear war just watch one of the military parades put on by Russia, China or NK. The few medium range ballistic missiles that touched off the Cuban crisis pale in comparison to what is currently carried on just one modern Russian ICBM or ballistic missile submarine. The media shrugs off any reports of foreign military build-up as “defensive” and encourage people to have blind hope that these weapons will never be used against them. Students of history should recognize that this is exactly how the media portrayed the weapons buildup of Germany and Japan just before WWII. Ambitious countries have always used their amassed weapons systems unless effectively deterred or preemptively attacked.

Decades of peace and security have lulled Americans into such complacency that even those who are aware of the danger are slow to prepare for it. Questions like “How can I afford it?”, “How can I convince my spouse”, or “Where will I put it?” doom shelter preparation before it is begun. Leaving it as a low priority is also a big problem: “First I need a new car,” “After the kids go to college,” or “I really want that boat or RV” allow our first-world incomes to be drained into other areas. Our book, The High Security Shelter, shows how to build an essential shelter for only around $10-16,000—depending on how much you do yourself. This a relatively tiny part of what we put into a home. Someday you will be glad you built a secure and safe space inside your home.

Cresson Kearney, the inventor of the Kearny Fallout Meter (KFM), decades ago wrote a book called “Nuclear War Survival Skills” for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (printed 1979 and updated in 1984). In a world that scoffs at any nuclear preparation, Kearny’s dated book has remained one of the few resources in this area and considered by many preppers as required reading, but its value is mixed.

Kearny is very knowledgeable in his field of Civil Defense and correctly explains the essential topics of radiation and fallout clearly. Also his homemade fallout meter (instructions are included in the back of the book) is an enormously valuable contribution to the preparedness community.

But we feel the book diverts readers in his recommendations for building rudimentary shelter solutions, which are very difficult to do once in a crisis and only minimally protect against fallout. But makeshift dirt shelters do not protect against the larger threats of social unrest, unprepared neighbors, and governments (federal and local) confiscating your food supplies once you are labeled as a “hoarder.” These are why your shelter must also be concealed and secure. Kearny’s old book also leads the reader away from newer developments in technology (solar, etc.) that are fairly cost effective and very valuable in hard times.

Kearny’s book can be downloaded for free from oism.org. I consider it valuable for general knowledge and its encouragement to prepare against nuclear fallout, but for better the most up-to-date information on shelter solutions and the latest information on EMP threats see our books The Secure Home and High Security Shelter. Both are now available in our updated 4th edition, upon request.

From last week's letter:
PREPAREDNESS TIP: RADIATION REMEDIES, PART 1 by Andrew Skousen
Nearly all areas of the US will be exposed to some radiation in the coming nuclear war, but the effects will vary based on shelter, health and radiation levels. Nausea, headaches, vomiting, spontaneous bleeding, lethargy, and low immune function will be common. Fear and panic of being attacked by mankind’s worst weapons will be sometimes worse than the initial effects of the radiation.

During WWII the first waves of enemy bombers over cities caused such widespread panic that this was arguably a greater effect than the attacks themselves. As the war dragged on people became accustomed to the frequent air raid sirens and carried on with their lives unless directly impacted by the bombing, significantly reducing the disruption to the economy and society. Don’t underestimate the peace of mind that a shelter, a radiation meter and knowledge about what is really happening can have. Additionally it helps to have some recourse to handle the effects of radiation sickness. Here are some natural remedies to help.

Iodine: radioactive iodine (I-131) is a significant part of nuclear fallout, but its half-life is only 8 days and during that time 90% of its radioactivity is beta particles which only penetrate a few millimeters into tissue. The problem is that iodine is so important that plants and animals gather it up and concentrate it in the fresh food we eat, particularly in milk from cows that are exposed to fallout or are grazing on contaminated pastures. Our thyroid will absorb this radioactive iodine in our thyroid where the beta particles can do significant damage and has been shown to cause thyroid cancer. I-131 is usually depleted three months after the nuclear event that created it. Milk from cows fed clean hay during this time should still be safe. Tainted milk can be made into cheese and aged three months or more to be safe.

Potassium iodide (KI) pills should be taken before the fallout reaches you to ensure the thyroid receptors for iodine are full. As I wrote last month doctors recommend giving patients high doses of 130 mg/day (half this dose for kids) when radiation is threatening, but this is too high for daily supplementing (it is purposely on the high end to ensure protection). Excess iodine is excreted by the body but too high of doses can result in toxicity or an allergic reaction. Nearly everyone is deficient in iodine and should take a daily supplement. Previously I recommended Iodoral, but I think a form called nascent iodine which is more bioavailable is better. Look for high quality products such as detoxidine ($30/oz.) or this nascent colloidal iodine ($17/oz).

Other radioactive elements such as strontium-90 and cesium-137 have much longer half-lives and need to be captured and carried out of the body too. For this you will need zeolite, particularly zeolite clinoptilolite, a compound formed during volcanic eruptions with a unique cage-like structure that attracts and captures heavy metals so they can be removed from your system. Zeolite has been used in huge quantities to capture radioactive material after nuclear power plant incidents and for capturing radioactive waste. The food-grade liquid ACZ (advanced cellular zeolite) by RNA ($60/4oz.) is one of several good products for internal use.

Bentonite clay has also been used in large quantities to absorb radioactive waste. This clay has many beneficial uses both inside and outside the body to treat many maladies. Although it may not be as effective at trapping radioactive metals throughout the body as zeolite, clay is soothing, provides natural minerals and calms the digestive system while cleaning out the gut, including radioactive elements.

There are many other herbs and supplements to help overcome the effects of radiation. Here is a list that I found useful and will consider discussing more in-depth in future tips. These options will be important someday when the effects of fallout are all around and the establishment doctors are overwhelmed and unprepared for it all.

From today's letter:
PREPAREDNESS TIP: RADIATION REMEDIES, Part II by Andrew Skousen
I have been surprised by the scope and variety of products, vitamins and herbs that can be helpful for overcoming the effects of radiation. They can be grouped into three categories: those that protect the body from taking up radioactive elements, those that help eliminate radioactive elements and the product of cell die-off and those that help build the body back up. Rather than recite all the potential options, let me summarize the best lists I have found (which are all worth reading):

In addition to the iodine, zeolite and bentonite clay I mentioned last week, Dr. Mercola recommends Vitamin D3 (to support cell strength and rebuilding), Spirulina (a blue-green algae that helps eliminate heavy metals), whey (to help the body produce glutathione, a key aspect of cellular regeneration), high doses of vitamin C and a list of valuable herbs.

Among the remedies in Dr. Group’s list that I mentioned last week is activated charcoal (to absorb radioactive elements and the toxins from cell die-off), calcium and magnesium (to block uptake of radioactive Strontium-90 into the bones and teeth), potassium (to prevent uptake of Cesium-137), bee pollen (to rebuild the immune system), cold pressed virgin oils such as olive and coconut oil (which have been shown to help rats withstand deadly doses of radiation by protecting cells and soothing the digestive system), and Brewer’s yeast for overall nutrition.

Joe Garma’s expansive list also mentions cold-pressed oils, unheated bee products, and several compounds in Brewer’s yeast. His list of vitamins emphasizes vitamin E, C, B-complex and D. Several good natural remedies are mentioned such as ginseng, aloe and chlorophyl. His list of healthy foods to eat highlights the beneficial qualities of garlic and onions (for valuable sulphur), brown seaweed products like kelp (for iodine and a substance called sodium alginate which decreased the uptake of radioactive elements by a factor of 12 in rats), pectin (found in apples, plums and other fruits), green cabbage and broccoli (reduced radiation effects in guinea pigs by 50%) and beets (which helps rebuild the blood and protected rats from uptaking Cesium-137).

As you can see there is a level of protection provided just by eating healthy beforehand so your levels of nutrients like calcium, magnesium, iodine, and potassium are up where they need to be. These lists are far from complete, however, due to legal issues that keep them from recommending doses on the drugs and many of the vitamins—so you must learn more about them to gauge how much is enough for “therapeutic doses.” Herbs and vitamins are generally forgiving in their side effects, but the more you know about each one and how much to give, the better off you will be when you can’t call up a medical professional.
