Took the night off from reading so much and decide to listen to some of the music featured here on the forum and some that is in the house.

This post is related to this one here;http://www.cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php?topic=12040.msg86591#msg86591 where ozrich within quotes a Jeff Buckley interview which is tied into Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan who is considered the Qwawali king of Sufi musicians.

First bought Ali Khan’s music in 1990 produced by Michel Brooks. Ali Khan’s devotional song called Mustt Mustt very much grew on me from the first listening and to this day very much enjoy it – wakes up the emotional center.

Here is the link to a decent version;

In addition, if anyone wants to fully appreciate Nusrat, they should also see him as he normally performed, without the influence of western musicians and mixing. One of the great voices of our time. This music is devotional, in that it is about the feelings of yearning to connect with God/ soul/ spiritual source.

Nusrat fateh Ali Khan was the best qawali singer in this century. Even if his disciples are good, no comparison can be matched. I have had the chance to experience his performance (and his whole crew of course, without whom nothin g would have been possible) something like 15 years ago... What an unforgettable evening!

I advice you to listen to his Paris's concert recordings

But there does exist a video of that event with the song "ô the living, ôthe Eternal":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twKEYValt

Yes this is so very true. To hear him and watch his crew play unplugged in the western sense is as you say. :)

You were most fortunate to have been in his and his player’s presence. :guru:
