On the edge....

My mother sent me an email with the following images and text. I thought the image gave a striking portrayal of how close we all may be to the edge of our own demise.

Look at the picture above and you can see where this driver broke through the guardrail, on the right side of the culvert, where the people are standing on the road, pointing. The pick-up was traveling about 75 mph from right to left when it crashed through the guardrail. It flipped end-over-end, bounced off and across the culvert outlet and landed right side up on the left side of the culvert, facing the opposite direction from which the driver was traveling. The 22-year-old driver and his 18-year-old passenger were unhurt except for minor cuts and bruises.

Just outside Flagstaff , AZ on U.S. Hwy 100.

Now look at the second picture below...

If this guy didn't believe in GOD before, do you suppose he believes now? Share this your email family and friends. Let this be a reminder to all of us, GOD is in control!

Wow, that was close! :O

I tried to use Google Earth to locate HWY 101 in/around
Flagstaff, AZ and I could not locate it. Has anyone been
able to do so? I was hoping that GE would at least show
pictures of this area?

I have seen that picture before, a while back actually. It was on one of those pages that has a whole slew of "crazy images", of which many are edited/photoshopped. So take this one with a grain of salt.

I sometimes check snopes.com on these stories that circulate to get kind of an idea if there is evidence that they could be hoaxes.

However, I do not know whether snopes is in any way reliable! [I am NOT endorsing snopes!]

Still they do suggest the story is true, for what it is worth. Check it out at:

Also you can check out _http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_truck_accident.htm with the caveat I don't necessarily endorse this site either.

The Snopes folks have a few biases that can be detected... but for anything that is not too extraordinary, they can be relied upon. Otherwise, they tend to be damage control agents, even if they are not aware of it.

If you follow the longitude/latitude coordinates supplied on the picture from Snopes, you can fly to that location in Google Earth. Move "North" to "West" and lower the viewpoint so you are flying across the ground. You can clearly see the stark topography, and how close the road comes to the edge. The image is distorted due to the subsampling of the topographic data, but it is clear that this is at least possible, and that the image of the cliff is real, even if the truck might have been an "addition".
