i recently read this fascinating book:

Op. JB: The Last Great Secret of the Second World War
by Christopher Creighton (aka John Ainsworth-Davis)

it reads like a ficticious page-turner but it is apparently true.

John Ainsworth-Davis was groomed from childhood by Winston Churchill and head of the ultra-secret "M-Section", Desmond Morton.
The main story is the titular "Operation James Bond" in which Creighton together with his superior, spymaster and (later) author Ian Fleming, attempt to extract arguably the most powerful Nazi, Martin Bormann from Berlin in the last days of the war. along the way many interesting tidbits are served up, like that "M-Section" sunk a dutch submarine that had discovered the japanese fleet heading for pearl harbor. Creighton also claims that he was allowed to betray the details of the "Dieppe Raid" to the nazis in order to build up his reputation as a double agent.

the book is a really engrossing read and i wanted to recommend it here to people who haven't heard about it.
it is available used from amazon for less than $1.

after i was finished with it, i did a search for mr. davis and came up with very little.
here is a radio interview from 2013 (after davis died at 89) with an argentinian journalist who knew him.

also, a few years after "Op. JB" another book came out, "The Final Mountbatten Report" which also deals with davis and looks very interesting.
alas, it is much more expensive and i don't have the funds at the moment, but i will keep it on my radar. (it costs about $36 from amazon US, but at my location it is over €100)
