The Living Force
I was on the M4 motorway in Sydney tonight heading west and Orion was directly ahead, just over the horizon.....almost guiding my way home. A waxing moon was also heading it's way downwards in a moonset just to the right and Venus was shining just above the lunar crescent. It was quite a show!
Living down south, our stars are a little different, for example Orion isn't standing upright, he's facing forward towards the ground at about 20-30 degrees. It's almost as if he's doing a belly flop into the earth...... or perhaps he could be swimming around the horizon during the night. There's no Pole Star and yet there is the Southern Cross high in the middle of the sky.
Anyway, tonight the heavens strutted their stuff downunder........ it was a fabulous stellar spectacle.
