The Living Force
I am not sure it this is in the right category, but it was the best fit for my anecdote and question as far as I can tell. I also couldn't find another thread that looked appropriate, but if I missed it somehow, moderators please feel free to attach it where it needs to go.
I've been meaning to ask about this for some time, but I always forget about it when I'm logged-on. First, let me tell the story:
Last spring (2008), my parents came to visit my family for a week or so during spring break. It happened to occur during a time in my life that was especially emotionally stressful, and that may have something to do with what happened, I'm not sure. They returned home at the end of the week, and everything went back to normal. A couple of days later, I talked to my mom on the phone and she was rather taken-aback by what had happened during the previous night.
According to her description, she woke up in the middle of the night and had to go to the bathroom, and wasn't able to go back to sleep. She was laying on her back, when she said that suddenly she saw me standing in the doorway (at the time, I was at home, in another state, asleep myself as far as I know). She said that I looked the same, except I had longer hair and was dressed formally in a black suit (very much not my regular attire). I proceeded to cross the room in front of her (she couldn't see my feet from her vantage point and said I seemed to be sort of walking and floating at the same time), go over to her bookshelf, and look through the books until I apparently found what I was looking for. I then returned the way I came and exited, never acknowledging her at any point in time.
When she described the event to me on the phone the next morning, she said that she was sure that she wasn't dreaming, was in fact wide awake (especially after I appeared), and couldn't go back to sleep for more than an hour and a half after this happened because it alarmed her so much. All I remember is being asleep, and I didn't even remember what I had dreamt about the night before
To the best of my knowledge, I've never had any out-of-body experiences, and my mom isn't senile or prone to imagining things, especially like this; it also hasn't happened since. I'm not concerned about it, but I have been curious since it happened and was wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience, or might have an explanation. I do take out-of-body experiences seriously, but I have always been under the impression that the person who does it is the one who remembers the experience, not the one who gets visited (!)
