What kind of world do we live in where such things like this happen? I had the great misfortune of actually seeing the video of this happening the other day as it was being broadcast on news channels.
These 2 brothers were killed in broad daylight, no remorse was shown. No sense of humanity was anywhere to be seen. The mob including some policemen just stood there and watched. However, I dont want to judge as fear more than anything else would have stopped me also from daring to intervene.
The sad thing about this story is that this happens everyday in every culture and corner of the globe. Not people being subjected to public beatings and murder whilst a crowd passively stares and certain members take turns to inflict pain and eventual death, but the situation where, people attack others either verbally, physically or even intelectually with the sole aim of inflicting harm and indulging in the negativity of the whole thing, whilst everyone else just stares and watches and maybe even take part or egg it on.
In terms of the work, I would like to ask what is a person meant to do when confronted with such a situation? Intervening might mean that you put yourself in as much danger as those boys for example and one might end up suffering the same fate, however, being a passive observer might mean one chose to do an STS thing when life and the wellbeing of others were brought into question. So what does one do? What would you do?
