Paleo diet

The Force is Strong With This One
My sister after food technology school tells me that carbohydrates are the energy needed to break down proteins in meat. If u dont eat carbohydrates in the diet paleo something replace this energy? Can I get some links to scientific research on this topic? (Speaking of the energy that body needs from carbohydrates, or what to replace with better think in the paleo diet)

Your sister is wrong and may end up dead wrong. Read the Ketogenic Diet thread and the Life Without Bread thread where many scientific studies are posted or linked to.

and give your sister copy of Primal Body Primal Mind by Nora Gedgaudas

If you are looking for a single starting point into the topic, written by researchers and addressed to a medical provider audience, but in a way that is accessible to the public, I would suggest reading The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living by Phinney & Volek. It should answer your questions, and it provides links to the research if you wish to dig deeper.

A short answer is that carbohydrates are only one source of energy in food, and the body is capable of making all the carbohydrate it requires, even if your carb intake is zero.

I always find it a bit funny looking at human history that people believe this.

How exactly did we live through ice ages if we needed carbs so bad or plants/fruits in general?

Look at our history and the availability of food in different parts of the world and you will start to see a different picture.

And a quick answer is yes, fats replace carbs.

It's like vets who say that the things we feed our cats are healthy when cats are obligate carnivores and don't even have the enzymes to get energy from plant matter.

How many vets actually say you should just feed your cat or dog meat?

Once you start seeing how bad and regurgitated without being checked, the advice you receive from the people who are meant to protect our health, you may be shocked.

A Paleo Diet, also known as prehistoric eating plan, is all about natural foods to help achieve great health and a perfect body.
The body system evolved for more than 2 million years with the food found in nature: meat, fish, vegetables, fresh
fruits, egg and nuts.

Philip, you've made several posts in response to health related topics, most of which are just plain wrong. Introduce yourself and your qualifications in the Newbie's forum, please, and learn the rules of the forum or your account - and posts - will be deleted.

Your sister must be going to a very bad school. First of all, whatever amount of glucose that the body might need, it produces by itself, when it needs it and in the quantities it needs. This is why there aren't any "essential carbohydrates". On the contrary, there are "essential amino acids" and "essential fats", which the body cannot produce, and therefore needs to get from food. That is very simple. No big science proof is needed.

Another good read is "The Vegetarian Myth", by Lierre Keith. She explains very well why we certainly don't need carbohydrates.

The links to the threads Laura referred to are these:

They are full of scientific studies, and reports from people who have gone off carbs.

I so much agree with that.

Of everything I share with people (mostly established facts), I've found out that everything concerning diet is what people tend to deny the most. It's not even funny.

And most of the new age veggies (emotionally involved vegetarians/vegans) seem to think I'm a heartless man just because I eat meat.

Sometimes I don't know if I should just cry or laugh.

I know what you mean, JayMark. Been there myself for a lot of years. Fortunately, my body-mind survive this nonsense...

Nonsense indeed. Today one told me that he could find arguments that contradict all what I've said (but he doesn't "have any time to lose in doing so"). *Sigh*

The Truth is that I could also find a crap load of arguments that explain how the earth is flat (I'm dead serious). So I simply told him that I have no problem with his opinion and ended it up right there. Much harder than going back at him with even more facts, and perhaps even becoming rude, but much better for both of us in the end. Otherwise, it would've ended up in an irrelevant and never-ending fight and we most likely would have both suffered from it.

Unfortunately, these people are only looking for stuff that will validate their own assumptions so it is irrelevant to try to discuss any further with them. It's not always fun but it is always a lesson and it can always make us grow.

Thanks. Your words help.
