Paranoid android, wierd sinchronicity or what?!

Normally I use yahoo mail. When you open Inbox it displays various adverts. It also automatically directs spam mails into the bulk folder. I usually go through the titles before deleting it because sometimes non spam mails end up in this box especially if the sender address is not saved in my address book.

It has been a while since I ve noticed something strange . At first I thought it was a coincidence but since I started paying attention the consistency of it kind of freaks me out.

First time I noticed after I discussed the possibility of buying a new printer and in great length my friend was giving me advice in the email ( the title of email was empty and there was no mention of subject of our discussion).

On the very day and next couple of days my bulk mail folder was showered with various mails and promos from printer producers.

Next time traveling to specific country was mentioned in my mail exchange ( title had nothing to do with it) and surely enough I got couple of spam mails advertising travelling to this country. To make things more weird even in my Inbox there was a big advert header advertising the same country.

then I complain in my mail of smoking more then usual and surely enough I get all quit smoking promo.

This continued over and over with various subjects and its pontless to list everysingle one of them.

But since I started paying close attention it didnt stop there, now even the things I mention during the communication over MSN messanger are meticulously followed by spam showers.
And to make things even creepier lately I was discussing very unusual and rare medical condition with someone over the land line phone and sure enough I got appropriate spam mail in my mail box.

I really dont know what to make of it, am I being paranoid android or what?

In any case I thought it would be interesting to share this and see if someone has had similar experience ...

Interesting. This whole internet and communication spam thing seems to be set up to either:

1. sell people things. I'm assuming that they need some sort of trojan, or technology for this, to 'track' conversations on the internet, or where you go on the internet.... Did you do any research on that 'very unusual and rare medical condition' on the internet before or after your conversation over the telephone?

2. fraud

I'm not sure which would be more annoying: receiving unwanted advertising or pathetic attempts to steal money/rip people off (I think its called phishing?). This is what I'm getting a lot of at the moment.

I think you may have some program which is tracking your internet movements. I wonder if the reason that nothing has been done about this (in terms of legislation) is because that the same 'technology' would have to be used to spy on people by security agencies? And then there is the fact that most people (including me) use technolgy and don't know how it works or how people can use it against you. Its very annoying. No sooner has new technology been invented and used, it gets 'infiltrated' and turned to more nefarious puposes.

Yea but trojan tracking your internet movements is one thing and intelligently picking up the contents from your mails is something completely different.

Since there is no logical or technological way to explain this I am trying to explain it away as some sort of wierd sinchronicity

It's not that difficult to imagine a data collection device that automatically tally's common words and phrases with similar spam. This has only occured when you have entered something similar before. What would be astounding is if you got spam from thoughts in your mind!! psychic spam.

I often get spam emails with made up names and these names sometimes mysteriously connect with themes of names in my life i have mentioned somewhere. I will try and get an example and post it with an explanation.

Actually, for what it's worth, this happens to me as well - in both my email accounts. It has happened consistently for the past eight months or so - at least that's when I started noticing it. At this point, I assume that either some sort of spy ware is on all of my machines or something actually operates through my mail servers - but it happens too often to be happenstance, imo.

I think it’s some sort of “smart content pusher". I have the same thing on my gmail account. Google is not even hiding it, and you can read about it in their “user agreement"
(maybe yahoo started to do the same thing). What they do, is scan the content of your e-mails and present you with instant relevant links, advertisements and spam. It also says that it is for your own benefit and called a “feature". Also, when you delete your e-mails, they never really gone, but still have a copy on google servers.

  You are joking keit
so they are not even trying to hide it anymore?!

does this violate any laws?

joejeba I like the phrase you coined - psychic spam
for now I am still observing and recording before I can decide if psychic spam really occurs

Gmail and privacy

1. Is Google reading my email?

No. Google scans the text of Gmail messages in order to filter spam and detect viruses, just as all major webmail services do. Google also uses this scanning technology to deliver targeted text ads and other related information. This is completely automated and involves no humans.

2. Will my Gmail messages appear in Google search results?

No, the contents of your email will never be included as Google search results.

3. What does Google do with my personal data?

Google uses this information to provide you a reliable service. Google does not share or reveal email content or personal information with third parties, other than in certain exceptions dictated by the law and common sense. For full details, please refer to the 'When we may disclose your personal information' section of our privacy policy. These exceptions are standard across the industry and are necessary for email providers to assist their users and to meet legal requirements.

4. What does Google do to protect my privacy?

Google takes several steps to guard the confidentiality of users' information by offering a number of industry-leading protections. For full details, please visit the Protecting your privacy section below.
From http://mail(dot)google.com/mail/help/intl/en/more.html#scanning

Scanning email content

All email services scan your email. They do this routinely to provide such popular features as spam filtering, virus detection, search, spellchecking, forwarding, auto-responding, flagging urgent messages, converting incoming email into cell phone text messages, automatic saving and sorting into folders, converting text URLs to clickable links, and reading messages to the blind. These features are widely accepted, trusted, and used by hundreds of millions of people every day.

Google scans the text of Gmail messages in order to filter spam and detect viruses, just as all major webmail services do. Google also uses this scanning technology to deliver targeted text ads and other related information. This is completely automated and involves no humans.

When a user opens an email message, computers scan the text and then instantaneously display relevant information that is matched to the text of the message. Once the message is closed, ads are no longer displayed. It is important to note that the ads generated by this matching process are dynamically generated each time a message is opened by the user--in other words, Google does not attach particular ads to individual messages or to users' accounts.

We recognize that seeing ads based on the content of an email message can be unsettling at first. Our experience has been that this feeling recedes as users become more familiar with Gmail. However, some people, many of whom have not used Gmail, have reacted by condemning all automatic scanning of email content, on the grounds that it amounts to a violation of privacy. We think this criticism is misplaced. All major email services, including Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail, automatically scan email content for the benefit of users. When email messages are fully protected from unwanted disclosure, the automatic scanning of email does not amount to a violation of privacy.

On the other hand, delivering information gathered through email scanning to a third party would be a violation of privacy. Google does not do this. Neither email content nor any personal information is ever shared with other parties as a result of our ad-targeting process.

Somewhere in your account settings I believe you can turn it off for yahoo at least, or you could when they first brought that out. I remember going through all that quite awhile ago, but I don't remember the steps I took - So, I only get span from 4 sources, circuit city, best buy, HP, and sometimes Dell - which all have to do with computer related stuff I bought - I could do without the circuit city and best buy ones, HP and Dell are really rare ... The cool thing was after I did it I stopped getting all the spam to remortgage my house (which I don't own), get perscriptions filled online (I don't need any) and the stupid ones for printer ink ... you might see if you can find it in your privacy settings or whatever it's called. But keep in mind that everything that goes over the internet is saved and scanned - everything.

And how wierd is this ...

For a number of years I have been using this word as a pasword, for all my mail accounts, and even for my other non mail related accounts. It is a very unusual name which I picked up from the novel The Golden Fleece, it was the character I could identify with the most from the whole Argo crew, Euphem.
This name I never heard anywhere else and this dude is actually not mentioned frequently in usual greek myth styories due to the fact that he wasnt super hero like some other crew mebers.
So few days after I have opened this thread I open my bulk mail folder and I see the email with the title:
Re: My Euphem

Its almost as if someone is taking the mickey out of me :|. And the thing is, once you start paying attention the things definitely became wierder

Following up on this story is new input from my good friend. She out of the blue mentioned yesterday that her email spam headings were startlingly like snippets from her life. We discussed whether she had mentioned all those things in emails and the weird thing was that some subjects wern't in emails but in forums word doc attachments etc!!

Just adds to the synchronic swiping of our words. I think the most pointless aspect of spam is the , well, pointlessness of it. Why go to such effort to create such personally recognisable headings while not actually achieving anything with this spam.Unless spookily what we get is the "trash words" that don't really assist any capitalist marketing scheme of the moment. The shredded data grafted from our literary world and spat back at us!

I suggest an experiment: set up a new email address with yahoo.wait and see!!
If nothing.
Input certain memorizable data eg: the words beetroot, uridium and speckled repeated.( email yourself)wait and see!!
If nothing
Join a couple of mainstream newsletter subscriptions. Wait and see!!
If nothing. forward Email your new address some spam from old address. Wait and see!! (delete forwarded spam though to save confusion)

I guess this way one can work out the specific trigger for this phenomenon.

What information is kept therefore if all we get are a mish-mash of

a)The Jungian Theory of Syncronicity, is a clear demonstration that
everything in this Universe is predeterminated. The Heisenberg's
Indetermination Principle comes from the human ignorance
(we cannot see the reality in its totality)...so only an ignorant, can believe in Free Will.

b)Matter is a complex form of energy; Energy
is a complex form of Information; Information...is God's Thought.

The Universe is God...so we are parts of God.

c) Every kind of "human desire",is followed by a Chain of "Electron wave
functions collapses" (in agreement with Schrödinger's Theory) which will not
follow ours expectations! ...So the paradox is: if we want to get hold of
something,we shouldn’t have to search for it. (Men stay still, and the mountains move...).
A curiosity: The connection between the electron
wave-function and the human intent has to do with the fact that
experiments have proved that the intentions of the operator of a radio
transmission facility, directly and instrumentably alter the
"footprint", the radiation pattern of the antenna. It has also been
shown that the intent of the human being causes a divergence in
the quantum field (which is the information field).
Any divergence in the information field results in
alterations of "probability", which directly influences
the outcome of any system which contains any element
of chance, directly influencing the resulting observable
events. (See the work of Princeton Engineering Anomalies
Research at http://www.princeton.edu/~pear/).

Notes:

"In agreement with Henri Bergson's thought (see the last pages of "Entre
le temps et l'éternité" of Ilya Prigogine ,Librairie Arthème Fayard,Paris),
we can accept the idea of a "Space-time absolute value", where
all the "Space-time relativ values" are incorporated (in agreement with Einstein’s
theory of relativity); the conclusion is that there is only one Real
Matrix of the Universe...so every other possible /potential parallel
"event/dimension/future" it's only a human illusion.

All the other parallel Universes (or Multi-Universes,as Phd. Everett said)
can only exist in our minds...perhaps whilst dreaming.

Unfortunately several physicists are conditioned by Heisenberg's Principle of
Indetermination...which, as you will know, is enough explain the
existence of Free Will.

Well, the Principle of Indetermination is hardly bound by the limits of
observations made by the human brain.

(We cannot see the reality in its totality...Bohm taught).

If we accept the idea that our Universe really is God,well,in a infinite
Caos of Energy too, there must to be a logical (but not for human
brain),exact,specific,and perfectly organized ...Plan.

How many significant (important) coincidences can happen to a person in his
life,living in a unorganizated and stupid Universe?...I think no-one.
Every synchronism in our life, is like an open-eyes-dream (Jung
taught)...and we can thank the fine intelligence of our Universe...if
they happen."

Anything you send over the internet can and will be monitored by somebody. That's how I assess these things. If I search for something on the internet I can expect to get spam later about that product or thing. I understand that.

But what is scary about Deckards post is that something he said over the phone turned in to spam.

Psychic spam...yeah that would be the ultimate experience in spamosphere.

I think that every our thought is monitored by someone, and even with not so science fiction technology, if someone can be tracked by his souls frequents , why not reading thought which is also energy, all is needed is accurate and tuned devices and maybe some patterns which could be used for determining what thought or emotion means. (offcourse all of it is just a speculations)

Imagine following scenario: technician is at his computer desk in some office, base or spaceship, and he sees that you are reading this and calls his boss

-Boss, we have danger of awakening.
-OK then lets run protocol “A"

And you feel sleepy or were just distracted by arrival of your friend or something like that.

Off course it is more likely that that’s automated process, some program which recognize jumps over frequency limit and run some protocols (emotions, synchronicities, organic portals or whatever)

But I think that maybe we are very involved in whole “system" because it is running on our energy, and that synchronicities like that with spam and “mind spam" is very common just because that’s our energy and our thought that’s hold it together. But we are asleep and therefore we can’t recognize it, and can’t influence on it, but if we will be able to recognize it maybe we will be able to have greater influence on it.

I see it like some net of energy, or more like spiders web but not flat rather in 3 dimensions, spreading in every direction, and with many sub nets. And threads of the net is in every thicknes, shape and colors you can imagine, its everywhere and some are loose and some are changing crossing. Like one organism. And we are crossings of the net, not on crossings but we are crossings of energy and energy itself, and we influence on other crossings and whole net, every our thought is energy and it is spraying around whole net and keeping it all together, but the problem is that our energy is outside induced and we are not in charge of it, so our web is not like it should be.
