For some reason I started thinking about a former colleague of mine - a really nice guy - who writes songs and is beginning to have some success. The first song," No Shoes" is performed by a group called The Roches, and I love the harmony. The second, "Jesus Shaves, is done by the song writer himself with back up and I love the words. Many or even most of his songs are political satire and the last song, "Don't Search Me" is typical of his earlier work which satirized much of what was going on during the Bush years. Given all the searches taking place now in the U.S., it's even more relevant now than when he wrote it. The last song "Save The Millionaires" is a satire about the financial crisis.
During the last few years as we older teachers retired, he wrote songs for each of us and sang them at our retirement parties. Each song captured the essence of the person he was writing about. He once gave a free benefit at my daughter's school to raise money.I don't know what made me think of him now. Those years we all worked together were really good times.
