Patrick O'Hearn was the bass player for the pop-80's group Missing Persons. After they disbanded, he decided to pursue a solo career. His real passion was instrumental music, and he decided to tinker with electronic synth-based music that had a real minimalist approach. He signed a contract with Private Music, which was started by former Tangerine-Dream member Peter Baumann. He was one of the first 'New Age' artists, but I find that his music is too complex to be categorized. There are hints of rock, jazz, and fusion; his bass guitar is ever-present and the foundation for most of his work. His music has evolved to be more organic sounding, but still emotional and extremely evocative.
I discovered his music while listening to an early-Sunday morning music program on the local 'light jazz' station called 'Hearts of Space.' I don't know how else to describe the way it made me feel - it just transported me to a different place all together. His music has helped me through some of the most difficult times in my life, and I keep going back to it. It creates endless pictures in my imagination, from cold dark space to a warm breeze by a sparkling stream.
