Podcast animated GIF

I really don't care much for the new design of SOTT, but the worst part is that annoying animated GIF for the Podcast constantly trying to get my attention for no reason (there hasn't been a new one for a long time now).

Could you make it static (oops, no pun intended) - uh- stationary... or at least more sedate?

Well, i do care and i like it. Moreover, i like the animated gif.

And if you had listenned one of the last podcast and read more materials, you would have understood why there hasn't been a new one.

I think the podcast image is great. So what their hasn't been a new one lately. There are a lot of podcasts from the last year to listen to. Pick one and you can't go wrong. Keep the flash Atreides.

Yeah, I think it's a bit distracting too, but I still like it... so as a workaround, you can either right click it and deselect "play" from the menu (it's not a GIF but a flash animation) or; if you're using Mozilla Firefox, there's an addon called Flashblock which replaces every flash on a page with a play button.

Well, fwiw, I love the new SotT design. GIF and all. And when I'm reading, I'm concentrating on what I'm reading and not on what is going on with the GIF. That's just me, though.

I too thought the gif was cool - and I really love the new layout; the "V" theme kinda bugged me, sure he was a cool character, and it was a fun movie - but at the same time like a lot of american superheros he was self-righteous and a bit of a psychopath - just look at the manipulations he put that poor girl through (sorry I forgot her name) - and though it opened her eyes, did she ask for it or even want it? I just wish you folks at sott would offer random themes we ourselves can choose on our preferences page and preferably at least one that has a dark background so my eyes don't feel like they've been fried out of my skull after reading what-not on the forum or the news etc. But at the same time you have all done wonders with the site this winter, and I second lynne - "the new sott rocks!"

Just download the firefox flash blocker. It not only stops the podcast animation but it stops a whole boatload of other annoying stuff on lots of web sites. And it does so without preventing you from choosing to see the flash.

If you haven't created an account already, create one. Otherwise, log in with your username/password and select "Settings" from the menu.
In the text box that says Css, add the following on a new line:

td object {
display: none;
}


Press Edit to save and you're done. The flash animation will disturb you no more.
Keep in mind that you have to stay logged in to get your special style sheet settings when viewing the sott page.
