Not again! Tell me, is it my imagination, or does no one survive a shoot-out with police anymore? And does no one unarmed ever survive being shot at by police?! Sure seems like it. Looks like a pre-emptive strike policy (Iraq, Neocons, etc.) that's led to shoot-to-kill training, but inside the US and aimed at citizens.

West Memphis Boy Shot By Police

A 12-year-old West Memphis boy was shot and killed by police on Friday, June 22, 2007. Investigators say the child pointed a toy gun at officers.

Deaunte Farrow was killed outside the Steeplechase Apartments off Goodwin Avenue around 10 p.m. We're told West Memphis police were looking for drug dealers when the shooting happened. According to witnesses, including Farrow's brother, Deaunte did not have the toy gun in his hands at the time of the shooting. They tell us he had it in his pants and was putting his hands in the air when the officer shot him.

The officer who shot Deaunnte Farrow has been with the department for ten years. He is now suspended with pay.

West Memphis Cop Kills 12-year-old in Gun Mixup

[...] "The child had a toy pistol that looked identical to a real weapon. He did have a toy pistol with him and the officer saw it and fired shots. Two shots, I think," Paudert told the Memphis (Tenn.) Commercial Appeal. "It's a very tragic and unfortunate incident that happened."

The child, whose name was not released, died at the scene, Paudert said.

[...] "When the police confronted the 12-year-old and told him to drop the weapon, he made a gesture toward the officers and (they) fired," Allen said.

Despicable shocking
Words in a 'comment' '"It's a very tragic and unfortunate incident that happened' striked me because almoust the same words were pronounced in the accident with ill Australian woman when Mercury power company cut electricity supply to her house knowing that would mean a certain death to her. On record after 'accident' spokeperson for Mercury company used almost the same words as Paudert did. These words do not express outrage of what happened, like they try to imitate feelings because they know that's bad, but there is no blood in their veins, but ice-cold watered venom. They just shoot at anything that moves, it's like 'freedom' for americans slowly covertly transforms in 'justice' for Palestinians

What justification can there be for this? A 12 year old boy with a toy gun! Look how far the brainwashing has gone. Shoot first and ask questions later. Of course, this is a daily, or almost, occurence in Palestine, and as we have been saying for years, Palestine is the future for everyone of conscience.

Completely by chance, I heard a radio show in which the topic was militarization of the police in America. One caller from Tennessee reported noticing the change in policemen in recent decades. He said:
I drive a gasoline truck and I got pulled over by a cop. He said, "Do you have any idea why I pulled you over?" I said no. He said, "We have a 'move over' law that just passed. If you see someone coming up on the shoulder you have to move over a lane. And, in fact, this week, we passed 300 new traffic laws."

I said, well, have you got the book? I don't want to be violating any of these new laws. He looked at me really funny. I mean, if they pass 300 new laws, I need the book! He just looked at me funny.

You know, police have changed drastically since I was a kid. I'm getting close to 50 years old. When I was a kid, a cop was the person that you could trust. He was wearing a cap, he had a smile on his face, his hair was combed, his shoes were polished. Now you look at a cop and he looks like something out of a video game. His pants are tucked into his boot, his head's shaved, he's got sunglasses on, he's got a triple-stacked block, he's got five extra clips, two pairs of handcuffs, a can of mace, a taser, and an attitude of "I said it, so you do it!"

Anyway, we have to know what incrementalism is. We're training kids, in video games, to shoot, to kill, and it's all a game. The cops have this attitude that "we gotta keep you safe, so you gotta do what we say." To me, it's very clean and clear to see, that incrementalism is going to destroy this nation.

As a native West Memphian, I am very outraged with the police department as a whole, and not just because of this horrible tragedy. Why not take a look at the history of the department. Several years ago, three of their officers crossed the state line into Tennessee during a high speed chase over a broken tail light with guns blazing. Two people were killed as a result of their actions. During a different high speed chase (due to a shop lifted candy bar) a police officer was killed after wrecking his police car. A few months ago, a 16 year old girl was killed by a police officer because he was flying down a residential street without his siren or lights on trying to get to Wal-Mart to arrest a shoplifter. What this tells me is that these officers have poor training and fail to follow proper police procedure. This is the fault of the chief of police himself. The West Memphis police department is a total joke, and has been for years. They drive around harassing teenagers rather than busting crack dealers. Of course there is that handful of them who depend on the crack dealers for "extra income". The record speaks for itself. How many innocent people will have to lose their lives before mayor Bill Johnson will grow a backbone and fire this incompetent chief.

This reminded me of a quote in a different post ( http://www.cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php?topic=5099.msg33778#msg33778)

This is a great blog - if you're studing ponerology then you'll find lots of it here. and I just have to quote a bit:

The most difficult question I get asked by customers is, “Well would you call the police ?

As a police officer, my answer is always the same: “Err…well I err… couldn’t possibly say, I mean…err…it all depends really… the thing is it can take time and…well…it…err sort of depends what you want to achieve really and…things like that. Do you see what I mean? This kind of devastating answer to a relatively simple question is my own pathetic attempt to avoid saying, “I wouldn’t call the police in a million years, even if my own life depended on it. The police are essentially an administrative service for the insurance industry.
