As details emerge about the circumstances surrounding the death of pop icon Prince, sources tell TMZ that the 57-year-old was treated for a drug overdose 6 days prior.

The pop star was found dead on Thursday morning, but authorities have not yet revealed the cause of death.

Sources tell TMZ, however, that Prince was rushed to a hospital after an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois, and given a "save shot," typically used to treat an overdose. The music legend had just performed a show at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, Georgia.

While doctors reportedly urged Prince to remain hospitalized for 24 hours, he left after just 3, because the facility could not provide a private room.

Sources say Prince "was not doing well" when he left.

Prince’s representatives originally claimed that the emergency landing was because the musician was suffering from the flu.

The artist’s publicist Yvette Noel-Schure confirmed his death to Sputnik earlier on Thursday. Medics found him in an elevator at his residence in Minnesota, Minneapolis, and were unable to revive him.

The medics’ attempts to revive American pop singer Prince Rogers Nelson failed on Thursday after the singer was found in an elevator, police said.

Prince’s publicist Yvette Noel-Schure told Sputnik on Thursday that Prince died on Thursday morning at the age of 57 at his Paisley Park residence in Minnesota, in the Minneapolis suburb of Chanhassen.

Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson said on Thursday afternoon as cited by USA Today that the medics who were dispatched to Paisley Park found the singer unresponsive in an elevator and their attempts to revive him failed.

R.I.P. Prince

He was an icon when I was growing up, and had a huge impact on the music of the times. He rarely gave interviews and maintained a very reclusive life, staying well away from the media & paparazzi. And so young too. :(
 
As for cause of death, my speculation goes toward a complication resulting from a lifetime vegetarian diet - as opposed to opiate usage, he was an adult convert to Jehova's Witness & didn't even curse (not that that has anything to do with painkiller usage, in all reality).

Was colon cancer only a vegan occupational hazard, so to speak?

It looked like he was trying to hide some health concerns the past couple of weeks & overcompensating with a cheery disposition ("I'm feeling fine, really.") & large party last week & still performing while ill.

Autopsy tomorrow.
 
RIP Prince! Thanks for leaving something of value behind!!!

I am feeling old now, gone are many celebrity icons of my youth!

Fresh fodder for all the conspiracy theorists...so at least I can look forward to that.

I don't think these are the Pleiadians, seems to be some lady talking nonsense about Prince and the Queen of England. As the Cs once said "we tire of conspiracy theorists" :rolleyes:
