The pop star was found dead on Thursday morning, but authorities have not yet revealed the cause of death.
Sources tell TMZ, however, that Prince was rushed to a hospital after an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois, and given a "save shot," typically used to treat an overdose. The music legend had just performed a show at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, Georgia.
While doctors reportedly urged Prince to remain hospitalized for 24 hours, he left after just 3, because the facility could not provide a private room.
Sources say Prince "was not doing well" when he left.
Prince’s representatives originally claimed that the emergency landing was because the musician was suffering from the flu.
The artist’s publicist Yvette Noel-Schure confirmed his death to Sputnik earlier on Thursday. Medics found him in an elevator at his residence in Minnesota, Minneapolis, and were unable to revive him.

Prince’s publicist Yvette Noel-Schure told Sputnik on Thursday that Prince died on Thursday morning at the age of 57 at his Paisley Park residence in Minnesota, in the Minneapolis suburb of Chanhassen.
Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson said on Thursday afternoon as cited by USA Today that the medics who were dispatched to Paisley Park found the singer unresponsive in an elevator and their attempts to revive him failed.
