Quote:
In an explosive interview Pope Francis compared Jesus to the radical Islamic terrorist group the Islamic State. In an article that was published by Infowars on Wednesday reads,

“Today, I don’t think that there is a fear of Islam as such but of ISIS and its war of conquest, which is partly drawn from Islam,” he told French newspaper La Croix. “It is true that the idea of conquest is inherent in the soul of Islam, however, it is also possible to interpret the objective in Matthew’s Gospel, where Jesus sends his disciples to all nations, in terms of the same idea of conquest.”

The Pope also said he “dreaded” hearing about the “Christian roots of Europe” because, to him, they take on “colonialist overtones” and he called on European nations to “integrate” Muslim migrants into the continent.

“This integration is all the more necessary today since, as a result of a selfish search for well-being, Europe is experiencing the grave problem of a declining birth rate,” he stated. “A demographic emptiness is developing.”

His opinions are stunningly similar to those of top Iman Sheikh Muhammad Ayed, who said Muslims should exploit the migrant crisis to breed with Europeans and “conquer their countries.”

“Europe has become old and decrepit and needs human reinforcement… they are not motivated by compassion for the Levant, its people and its refugees… soon, we will trample them underfoot, Allah willing,” he stated. “Throughout Europe, all the hearts are enthused with hatred toward Muslims. They wish that we were dead, but they have lost their fertility, so they look for fertility in our midst.”

“We will give them fertility! We will breed children with them, because we shall conquer their countries!”

Pope Francis also promoted socialism during the interview.

“A completely free market does not work,” he claimed. “Markets in themselves are good but they also require a fulcrum, a third party, or a state to monitor and balance them.”

just to be clear - because i think the article is a little twisted. The link the article posted from - Infowars, i.e. Alex Jones (generally scaremongering and disinfo) has been taken down too.

Here's an excerpt from the interview:

Q: The fear of accepting migrants is partly based on a fear of Islam. In your view, is the fear that this religion sparks in Europe justified?

Pope Francis: Today, I don’t think that there is a fear of Islam as such but of ISIS and its war of conquest, which is partly drawn from Islam. It is true that the idea of conquest is inherent in the soul of Islam. However, it is also possible to interpret the objective in Matthew’s Gospel, where Jesus sends his disciples to all nations, in terms of the same idea of conquest.

In the face of Islamic terrorism, it would therefore be better to question ourselves about the way in an overly Western model of democracy has been exported to countries such as Iraq, where a strong government previously existed. Or in Libya, where a tribal structure exists. We cannot advance without taking these cultures into account. As a Libyan said recently, “We used to have one Gaddafi, now we have fifty.”

Ultimately, co-existence between Christians and Muslims is still possible. I come from a country where they co-habit on good terms. Muslims come to venerate the Virgin Mary and St George. Similarly, they tell me that for the Jubilee Year Muslims in one African country formed a long queue at the cathedral to enter through the holy door and pray to the Virgin Mary. In Central Africa, before the war, Christians and Muslims used to live together and must learn to do so again. Lebanon also shows that this is possible.

So the Pope is doing propaganda against Gaddafi. Very good Pope. Ok, he quotes, but he choosed the quote.

I don't like the moralistic talk of the Pope. He reminds us to be open, to accept Muslims and be able to live with them. Oh, so we don't like Muslims? Is that what he said? Be Cristian. Why did he not accused Obama and the Europeans bombarding the Muslims countries?! Obama is not us. Israel is not us. We can live with any other religion. We are not against Muslims. They are. But the Pope ask us to stop to be against Muslims. Well...

And his discourse about Jesus versus Isis, versus conquest... why did he choose this example? I don't understand. Why did he not criticized the Church? The Catholics? Their avidity to conquest in the past and in the present, their sadism and brutality very similar to ISIS. So only Islam is a religion that have this root to conquer? Not true.

Not for me this pope. He seems a little hypocrite.

The Jones/paleoconservative crowd would think this would be cherrypicking and irrelevant, which means it is probably pertinent and relevant: The pope to me seems to be comparing Jesus to Islam in general. The inclusion of the sentence before the section I quoted is probably a poor choice on his part, but I do not think he is condoning ISIS's actions, which a certain crowd probably wants us to believe.

Not that conquest, if (I assume) he meant it as pushing some ideology on large populations, is a good idea. I am not religious (or not in the way the pope is, clearly), but it is not exactly saying "Jesus is like ISIS." If anything he probably thinks it is already obvious that ISIS took the idea too far. It may also be a mistake to "try to understand ISIS," it is basically asking us to understand psychopaths.

But the pope didn't go too far, I'd say, just normal brotherhood-of-man thinking.
