Great article for the start of the week ...

“I am whatever I want to be – that’s the dream, isn’t it,” he said. “If I decide I want to have a national song, I can choose it, and I can change it any time. The same with my flag – it could be blue today, red tomorrow. Of course, my power is only absolute here, where I am the true sovereign.”

wish you all great week too! ... :boat:

That's awesome. I always wanted my own country. I think I might have to round up a gang of friends and take it over. From what I can tell his defense budget isn't very high. I think I have a toy bow and arrow and some plastic light Sabres. Let me know if you wanna join me in the quest to FREEEDOM!!!!!!!

I would have thought that there were more than a few spare uninhabited islands available where you could establish your 'kingdom'. I spent a couple of months on one near New Guinea. Bonora island. You could walk around it in half an hour. Turtles and Terns were the only inhabitants. Just be careful of the crocodiles.

I am sure there is plenty of islands or quite privately isolated lands, but still on the reach of civilization, with abandoned old villages, either in Croatia, Italy, France, Spain, Greece, ... :) ...

something like this ;)

This has always been my fantasy. Too bad the coming cataclysms make it a bad idea.

Well, hopefully full cataclysm will not happend next month ;) .. I went tooday to search a bit for something like that at Croatian coast, and was quite surprised how prices are affordable .... mmmm :cool2:

Interesting proposal to by a tiny island somewhere especially considering what C's said that Ice age is coming. So lets suppose that you purchased some islet somewhere - an it is registered in the books as yours. And than - all the sudden ice age kicks in - and polar caps grow drastically in volume and sea level drops for some 120 meters. So all the sudden you own a whole "continent. And it"s all by the books! :headbanger:

:cool2: :cool2: :cool2:

Why buying an island when you can find some land and claim it yours? :D

Like this, tiny river island between Serbia and Croatia is now Free Republic of Liberland. For now they have consulate in Serbia (not the “real” one of course). You can enter Liberland by land from Croatia or by the river from Serbia. Prepare some 300 Euros for fine if Croatian police catches you (Serbian understand it’s a joke and doesn’t apply rules by the EU, so the pass is free).

https://liberland.org/en/about/
Free Republic of Liberland (hereinafter “Liberland”) is a sovereign state located between Croatia and Serbia on the west bank of the Danube river. The nearest towns are Zmajevac (Croatia) and Bački Monoštor (Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Serbia). On some maps, this area is referred to as “Gornja Siga”.

Liberland came into existence due to a border dispute between Croatia and Serbia. This area along the west bank of the Danube river is not claimed by Croatia, Serbia or any other country. It was therefore terra nullius, a no man’s land, until Vít Jedlička seized the opportunity and on 13 April 2015 formed a new state in this territory – Liberland. The boundary was defined so as not to interfere with the territory of Croatia or Serbia. Its total area of approximately 7 km² is now the third smallest sovereign state, after the Vatican and Monaco. For more information regarding the border dispute between Croatia and Serbia see an article on Wikipedia.

The motto of Liberland is “To live and let live” because Liberland prides itself on personal and economic freedom of its people, which is guaranteed by the Constitution, which significantly limits the power of politicians so they could not interfere too much in the freedoms of the Liberland nation.

yes indeed ... it is one of the most beautiful parts of Danube river in Croatia, amazing countryside! But it is also hawy place, been havely bloded through all wars on this teritory, WWII specialy .... :( ... but still every time I go in that part of my country I feel some kind of special and sad and strong peacefulness .... it is quite unpopulated indeed ...

Yesterday we talked about that with friends etc, and actually it is amaizing how no one believes it is real. To be honest I am not either sure if it is legal or not, didn't have time to check legal stuff, but I am a bit concerned how is it possible that someone can just come out and say that is his land? I guess the land there is probably owned by some private individuals? Don't know, interesting, will investigate more about ...

But I guess people in Croatia will be scared to participate or to get citizenship, as they are always scared not to get into troubles with authorities. And also, the conversation yesterday was, more like " a guy is crazy, a it is not real" blah blah ... the impossibility to accept something like that, or impossibility to accept any innovative approach to life, that is not approved by some authority of some kind, no metter how that authority is even more rotten and unreliable, the trust to "authority" is the biggest anchor that is keeping croatian people to stagnate and even to erode after a while, as we see it in last couple of years ...

In theory it is legal, because the border agreement between Serbia and Croatia is not settled yet, in reality it is different story of course.

The explanation:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croatia%E2%80%93Serbia_border_dispute

We will see how the announced ‘Liberation day of Liberland’ will come out in a day or two. In legal theory it can be ‘liberation’ in reality it still is invasion on Croatia done by Czechs from the Serbian territory across the international waters (river Danube) Sound hilarious :D

If nothing else it's great fun :)
