Hello:

I'm just curious about rules or regulations concerning using personal names.
My posts in creative works, I included my real name since I posted copyrighted stuff.
Is that ok?

second, I see some html links preceded by an underscore_ to "unlink" them,
and some htmls "linked" - does it matter? which way is preferred by the forum?

Thanks
:/

Regarding using your real name, it comes down to an issue of strategic enclosure. You can read more about that in Cassiopedia here.

Regarding using hyper-links: I just checked the Forum Guidelines and didn't see it mentioned there, but I do recall seeing a post by Laura somewhere that said she didn't want the traffic from this site to affect the link rating for other sites. Not sure how familiar you are with the Internet, but basically a big part of what makes certain web sites popular is how many other web pages have hyper-links to their site. We wouldn't want, say some COINTEL site to get favorable Google listings because a bunch of us linked to it for examination/discussion. So there is definitely a preference to not use the complete hyper-links. You will see moderators do this, but I think it's fair to say if you are not a moderator, you shouldn't direct link to anything not on this site.

Hopefully if I am wrong someone will correct me :)

It has taken awhile for the issue to sink in for me because I just unlinked everything to err on the side of safety. My impression is that Admin and Mods will take steps to protect members from predators which means removing any and all personally identifying information, probably under the assumption that you just made a mistake or something. Hyperlinks to known disinfo sites = 'bad'; hyperlinks to other sites = 'Ok', I guess, unless it will publicly identify you.

As one can probably see by now, the underlying intent is to exercise responsibility to protect you. :)

Hi Vectis,

I just wanted to add that when posting links the safest procedure is to unlink all addresses not of the Cass sites. This saves the moderators some time and effort.

Thank you Aaron, Bud and Jerry... the Strategic Enclosure discourse was very helpful!
...and the linking info makes sense also. Appreciate your advice...
