Question about a book I read

Hi All,
As the subject suggests I am throwing a bone out here to see what happens.

Many years ago, probably about 10 or so years ago, my girlfriend at the time, gave me a book. Once I started reading it I could not put it down, I even think she regretted giving it to me it was that engrossing.

Anyway, from time to time, things remind me of it, and I just want to remember what it was called so I can research its contents further.

The book was set in todays time, but of ancient knowledge to do with somewhere in either central or south america. It spoke of levels of ascension, I guess for lack of a better word, but all these levels occurred as a human being, and the higher the level, the less that occupied it. There was one man in one of the tribes or communities that got so high in levels that he was able to vanish, i.e. become invisible. And if I remember correctly, he may have even had to, to save his life, for his knowledge was some sort of threat maybe...this I am less clear on.

I can't find her to ask her, so I'm putting it here to see if it rings any bells for anyone here?

Oh, and the book was not fiction.

Cheers

ADMIN note: Actually, this is not "throwing out a bone" which is a manipulative or confrontational act, it is, rather, asking a question. The subject has been changed accordingly.

Re: Throwing out a bone here!

Hi Dingo,

Yes, I agree with Alana, it sounds very much like the Celestine Prophecy which was mainly set in Peru. There was also a movie released in 2006 and two other books, The Tenth Insight and the Secret of Shambhala.

I hope this helps. :)

I might be wrong here, but your description reminded me of the Celestine Prophecy, or the sequel to it, the Tenth Insight.

Yep, sounds like Celestine Prophecy

CP sure did make an impact did it not... And it has been discussed on the forum also. Try searching for James Redfield.

Yep, I agree.

And yep, is a fiction book.

(I personally found it rather trite and consequently insulting, at the time I read it [about 20yo]. I have a mental note to go back to it one day and try appreciating what others got out of it, as so many did love it.)

What I meant was, because I was young, I think I was quick to judge it. I will have another look one of these days.

Didn't mean to come across as harsh.

Not at all. My memory of it was that it was real and not fiction, so either I was duped, too dumb, or it is the wrong book

As for me I couldn't even read the book entirely, maybe because the french translation was really awful ( no style at all ...erk) and then this year i saw the movie and really hated it .As for the movie itself, the acting was terrible, but i never thought the story could be even more boring than the books'...but this is a totally subjective opinion with no value whatsoever. Usually when I read a book i try to get my mind rid of a lot of stuff like the author's reputation, his political or religious situation...and try to stick to one single thing: the IDEA the book tries to develop. But after doing this with this book i found pretty much nothing :O
