Specifically, Louis has isolated strange, thick-walled, red-tinted cell-like structures about 10 microns in size. Stranger still, dozens of his experiments suggest that the particles may lack DNA yet still reproduce plentifully, even in water superheated to nearly 600˚F. (The known upper limit for life in water is about 250˚F.)
Strange. Anyone knows were to search for such experimentdata? Would love to take a look.

Here's a page with lots of info - http://education.vsnl.com/godfrey/ - , and a link to the paper "THE RED RAIN PHENOMENON OF KERALA AND ITS POSSIBLE
EXTRATERRESTRIAL ORIGIN" by Godfrey Louis and A. Santhosh Kumar - http://arxiv.org/abs/astro-ph/0601022 -

This made the Top Ten at Space.com; I find this interesting that Fortean phenomenon has made the 'mainstream' news:

In the summer of 2001, at least 50 tons of red particles fell over Kerala, India, continuing as scattered rain for nearly two months. Theories as to the source of the scarlet showers include rusty particles from a dust storm and biological cells of an extraterrestrial origin. In the April issue of the journal Astrophysics and Space Science, scientists from Mahatma Gandhi University reported that the particles have the appearance of biological cells, can reproduce at sizzling temperatures, and have no similarity to dust particles.

The first thing I thought of when I read this article is one of the Plagues of Egypt:

exodus chapter 7 said:
16 And thou shalt say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear.

17 Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.

18 And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall lothe to drink of the water of the river.

19 And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.

20 And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.

21 And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
It is highly unlikely that the reference to "blood" is literal, but is more metaphorical. A "red rain" would flow into waterways and have a more lasting effect. Perhaps it is all tied to the brown dwarf cycle and the Oort cloud disturbances. On Earth we have found life forms in the most bizarre of circumstances so there is no reason not to assume that we have only scratched the surface of possibilities.

Are "Red Rain Cells" in India Coming from Comets?

Another piece of the puzzle, perhaps?

The following article reports that over the past few years, the state of Kerala, India, has been experiencing strange "red rain" that actually stains people's clothing. Those studying the phenomena do not know the cause, but have discovered that the rain's cells have "extraordinary" properties: They have unusual fluorescence; are able to multiply without DNA; and, unlike any other Earth life, do not die at a temperatures in excess of 500 degrees F and pressures of 300 lbs per sq.cm. This has led Dr. Godfrey Louis (Head of Physics Dept, Cochin University) to believe that the cells must be of extraterrestrial origin, specifically from comets....

Thanks, Green Manalishi, the subjects have been merged.

Anyone with some background in biology can take a look at these articles here by C. Wickramasinghe and see if it is reliable?

FOSSIL DIATOMS IN A NEW CARBONACEOUS METEORITE said:
We report the discovery for the first time of diatom frustules in a carbonaceous meteorite that fell in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka on 29 December 2012. Contamination is excluded by the circumstance that the elemental abundances within the structures match closely with those of the surrounding matrix. There is also evidence of structures morphologically similar to red rain cells that may have contributed to the episode of red rain that followed within days of the meteorite fall. The new data on “fossil” diatoms provide strong evidence to support the theory of cometary panspermia.
