The Living Force
Found this is the Oregonian today, 9/19/2006 pp "A5"
1) CIA pays others (such as Syria) to do the dirty work for
them? So THAT is probably the secret the US does not want
it's U.S. citizens and the world to notice? Some secret, huh?
2) Since Canada implicated Mr. Arar when he was caught
by U.S. authorities, so why is it that the U.S. is urged by
Canada to pay for compensation to Mr. Arar when Canada
itself is majorly at fault? I guess the laws are not setup
for force the goverments/officials to be held financially
and personally accountable since soveriegn protections
laws prevent it?
3) CIA cooperation with Syria? Since when does Syria and
U.S. "cooperate" when Syria is an enemy of Israel? Something
does not add up here, in my mind.
4) Since Bush wants torture "do's and don'ts" spelled out for his
CIA agents by congress, he should be sure to add the following
to his list for CIA sanctioned devices and actions: Electrical cables,
whippings, beatings. I think these will pass Geneva convention, article 3
as "humane treatment of non-combatant prisoners".
5) So, what does that say about the U.S. and it's allies when
people get ensnared merely by suspicion or accusations of
being a 'terrorist'? I guess the clear warning is, YOU had better
hope that you are not mis-labeled or mis-characterized, and
not entered into the 'terrorist' databases and more importantly,
perhaps it is very wise advice as to not freely associate yourself
with others who might have a "terrorist profile" file on them which
in turn can be used to implicate you and cause you to be placed into
redention!
Well, I guess it is time to build your survivalist cave underground at
night in pitch black darkness in the middle of nowhere, stock it up with
essentinals: food, water, guns, bombs, and an escape tunnel systems
to escape from the security agents looking for you and TRUST NO ONE,
especially your own government! [This is not what I am advocating
personally, but I am writing this paragraph point out certain people
who are very angry, who have intense emotions, and act out in this
way.]
Questions and analysis about this report:Bob Gillies. Associated Press said:TORONTO - A government commision said Monday
that Canadian police told U.S. authorities an Ottawa
man was an Islamic extremist suspected of links to
al-Qaidia - inaccurate information that likely led the
Americans to deport him to Syria where he was
tourtured in prison.
The commision of inquiry into the case of Syrian-born
Maher Arar exonerated him of all suspicion of terrorist
activity and urged the federal government to offer
financial compensation. He claims he was a victim of
extraordinary rendition -- the U.S. transfer of foreign
terror suspects to third [world] countries without
court approval.
"I am able to say categorically that there is no
evidence to indicate that Mr. Arar has committed any
offense or that his activities consitute a threat to the
security of Canada," Commisioner Dennis O'Connor
said in a report on the findings of the inquiry.
Arar, a software engineer, was traveling on a Canadian
passport when he was detained at a New York airport in
September 2002 during a stopover in his way home to
Canada from vacation in Tunisia.
Arar said U.S. authorities sent him to Syria for interrogation
on suspiction of being a member of al-Qadia, an allegation
he denied.
After his release in 2003, Arar made detailed allegations
about extensive interrogation, beatings, and whippings with
electrical cable in Syrian prision cells.
The commision found the Royal Canadian Mounted Police
shared information about Arar with American anti-terrorist
agencies both before and after he was detained. Among other
things, the RCMP wrongly described Arar to the Americans as
an "Islamic extremist suspected of being linked to al-Qadia
terrorist network."
The force also describe him as the "target" of a domestic anti-
terrorist investigation in Canada when in fact he was a perhiperal
figure who had come under suspiction only because he had been
seen in the company of another man who was under surveillance.
