I ran across this comedian/musician's performance and found it an interesting, subversive example of how those NLP creeps and other hypnotic speakers ply their trade. Anybody who has watched a bunch of TED talks can appreciate the humor.

It might have been good if he included a few words (without irony) about what he was doing, but it definitely served to illustrate some of the ways in which B.S. media gets into people's heads in a manipulative way.
I don't know how effective his approach was, given that after delivering exactly one of those canned bits of B.S. (thanking the audience for making him feel at home), the audience cheered on cue to the stimulus without recognizing that he was being ironic.
Near the end, he even used the opening technique, (confusing people so that they are forced to listen very closely), to deliver one direct message, using clearly understandable words, about there being no excuses to not research.
How do you deal with a public so easily manipulated? Do you manipulate for their own benefit? Is that any better? And what's the point?
