The Living Force
I'm not sure where this should go, so I made a new thread. This will dove tail in with the Diet, Leaky Gut, and Detox thread in some ways.

Background: almost 6 months ago I started on a modified version of the Ultra Simple Diet. Along with the usual suspects (gluten, corn, soy, dairy) I also cut out the high lectin food groups; grains, nightshades, and legumes. The physical changes were dramatic, I lost 40 pounds, and was finally feeling pretty good about life again, doing art work and sewing. Then, weirdly, I started seeing things at night. This grew steadily worse, until my Hubby took me to the ER yesterday to make sure I didn't have a hidden infection brewing somewhere. (still waiting to hear on that.) To shorten the tale, it was the anti depressant medication I've been on for the last few years that was causing these nasty symptoms, and now I'm going to be weaned off this drug, with the neurologists help.

To my surprise, he was very positive about supplementing with 5-HTP to offset withdrawl symptoms if they crop up. In addition, I spent time looking around today and found a resource people can take to their doctor when and if, like me, the time comes to stop taking one or more of these drugs.

Please note: some of the supplements included in the protocols contain barley and wheat protein. If you are on the Diet, you can substitute a different supplement called JNP instead. I'm not convinced that the supplements sold by the company are all they are hyped up to be, but I'll have a go at one or two and see. These protocols are longer and gentler than what I'm going to be doing, but I do plan on getting most of the supplements and making sure I keep a journal.

If you want to go off any medication, if you can, get the book or print out part of the web site, or even call the owners of the site on the phone and see what you can print to take in to inform the doctor. They are there to help people.

I'm going to keep track of the process and report back when I can. :)

Happy to be able to have a go at this.

I'm glad to see you will be getting off of the antidepressant medication Gimpy. I was on some many years ago and caused a huge downward spiral in my life. After getting off them it felt great to feel emotions again and to be able to dream normally at night. On the drugs life felt so dull and colorless without feelings and led to much inconsiderate behavior towards others. Staying away from prescription drugs when possible has been very important to me since these events.

Best of luck to you. :flowers:

I'm happy for you too Gimpy :)

Similarly to you and Masamune, I took antidepressants about 12 years ago for a few years. I did NOT like it. For me, the saying "being possessed by the devil" took a new meaning. It really was like a devil eating my life away, eating my emotions, everything until I barely had anything left. It was a state of no life.
There are, of course, different types of antidepressants, and some won't have such nasty side effects. Nevertheless, it is better not to have to take them.

I'm also very glad that a program as been devised with supplements, I think that it can be a huge help for people who just want to stop antidepressants and don't know how, or whether it is possible.
