Hi All,
I just got involved in a project inspired by Ricardo's work and philosophy. I haven't found anything about him on the forum, so I thought to write about him, as he is the embodiment of many ideas promoted here.

Ricardo Semler, the maverick businessman, inherited his father’s company (SEMCO - Sao Paulo, Brazil) early in his life, but instead of continuing his approach, he decided to try something different.

This resumes to empowering people, passing the responsibilities and shared profits, along with involvement in leadership to those employees who were willing to participate in this new organizational form.

He got reed of most of the old committee members, and by standing firm to his decision he became successful in reaching a critical mass of employees who decided to get involved.

It is also interesting to listen to his ideas about:
- teaching the new generations, the precarious role of standard education in schools,
- the merits of life changing events (like a close bruise with death),
- fear of change by clinging to ownership of power and wishful thinking
- redesigning of schools, healthcare and other social amenities’ role
- The role of music, creativity, free thought, lack of anticipation, leap of faith
- The way employees elect their leaders and organize themselves in work and pastime.
- The way they reorganize the very concepts of manufacturing goods, relationships with traders, consumers.

He is an intelligent, friendly, open minded person, who does what he thinks, and his target is to get out of a military culture applied to multiple aspects of life.

Here are some links to illustrate all these:

There are other videos on youtube.com if you are interested.

I think that by educating people in advance, by preparing them to dare to see themselves in different postures, and, why not, changing a restricting self image is also beneficent to prepare them for that leap of fate.

Maybe you could also participate to the successful development of this project by sharing your ideas about these subjects and also some different points of view to enhance the chances for a harmonious development of both people and organizations everywhere.

Thank you !
Joy
