I'll always remember his powerful, heart-wrenching performance in Elephant Man, I saw it in school when I was a kid and it left a strong impression on me.

The Timing is very interesting, and is it a sign? Condolences to his family, and friends. What a great Actor! He will be missed.

The timing is interesting, especially considering there's been an increase in interest for Orwell's 1984 after Trump's inauguration, which has been making headlines this week. The book has sold out on Amazon and currently holds #1 on the best selling books list: _https://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/books/ref=sv_b_2/156-8673412-7569364%20https:/pbs.twimg.com/media/C2_ERnGUEAA3xpj.jpg?tag=cnet-vig-news-20

It Can't Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis is #6 and Huxley's Brave New World is also #15. Many people are obviously going hysterical over a Trump presidency.

John Hurt was an excellent actor. Being a big Harry Potter fan, I'll always remember him as Ollivader. But I also loved him as the voice of The Great Dragon in Merlin - he had such a beautiful voice. He also played the "War Doctor" in Doctor Who.

Yes, he was a great actor. The strongest impression he left on me was in the role of S.R. Hadden in Contact:

It's interesting that you mention Trump, because Hadden was also a very rich guy who wanted to give something back to society, "from whom he have taken so much", and fought against "the powers that be". I hope that Trump will follow the same path.

One of my all time favorite actors. It started way back when but for me, from the movie 1984 up through his other later work, his performances were nothing short of mesmerizing.

RIP, John.

Another scene with him and Jodie Foster was one of the best line readings in a movie from him:

I would say that it was one of the best line readings of all movies! :D

They don't make such movies anymore. :(

RIP, John Hurt. Never really noticed him in movies, but maybe its time to (re)watch the listed filmography of him.

I got inspired to watch Elephant Man for sure, heard many good things about it, but never got to it.

I did not like this actor but I loved his voice. I remember him very well in his character in the Movie "Alien". I just saw his filmography, he performed in so many movies!
