Just when I thought that movie about Robin Hood can be nothing but swashbucklers in tights prancing around, Ridley Scott made this very enjoyable and soulful movie.
We don't know whether Robin Hood is a mythical symbol of medieval socialism or actual historical person but whatever the case this movie certainly brings the breath or fresh air to the subject.
There is a lot of historical inaccuracies in this version especially relating to Richard Lionheart and Prince John nevertheless it is still enjoyable and good depiction of social perspective.
In any case for me it was far more logical that merry man of Sherwood would be bunch of dirty and sickly children in the country where all men departed to crusades.
Apart from Russel Crow the rest of the cast was brilliant leading with Kate Blanchet, Max von Sydow and William Hurt. Even Russel crow manages to grow on you towards the end although he sounds more Irish then English.
In fact I really liked middle aged Robin and Marianne, and their love story which was depicted very subtly and has proper knightly courting flavor to it. Marianne 's role is usually supportive in Robin Hood genre but Cate Blanchet certainly overshadowed everyone else and by the end of the movie you want to worship the grounds she walks on.
The song Celtic Woman was a spot on addition to the sound track. All in all I wholeheartedly recommend this movie as light entertainment.
