Romania's Tunnel Underworld

I found this video through a friend, and I wanted to suggest you this as it could fit in the section Society's Child.

Short description of the video:
Channel 4 News meets the people living underground in tunnels beneath Romania's capital Bucharest, abandoned by society to a life of drug addiction and shocking conditions.

Thanks edgitarra, i watched it and, well, it is what it is, sadly.

I can't help but think Channel 4 didn't do a great job of addressing WHY they're there. They mentioned Ceausescu and it was only 15 minutes, but Channel 4 is mainstream UK tv and their agenda no doubt relates (somehow) to the recent 'Romania joins EU, Britain to sink due to the weight of immigrants' issue.

What struck me as interesting is that this tactic of driving the 'untouchables' underground is, both symbolic of the fact that every inch of the planet is owned by 'somebody' and the only recourse is to move away from the built up areas (possibly making yourself more vulnerable) or to live somewhere where few will complain.

This has even begun to happen in general. In Spain i believe the police have begun to crack down on people 'loitering' in the squares - a pastime i quite admire - and in the UK, well, you can't sit/hang anywhere (unless your paying!).

I bet if city folk started shacking up in the metro tunnels there'd be a few complaints...

I watched this a while ago, similar story:
