"Sacrifice" by Lisa Gerrard

Her voice is simply amazing. I particularly love "Sanvean" (_http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5gCdOyF3nA&feature=related). I can't articulate in words what it is that that song does to me every time I hear it. Saying it "speaks to the soul" sounds cliched, but it's the best words can do. Most of her songs do likewise.

She does have a powerful voice. I have a particular affinity for this one:

LISA GERRARD - Aria (featured in Layer Cake )

I can do without the narrative beginning, though. :)

Very nice!

I've been listening to that voice since I discovered Dead Can Dance in the mid 90s. (Kept me sane during the dot.com "death" marches).

Caught some of Lisa's solo work afterward too. But there was something missing in her solo work that was there before.

It's as if she kept hitting some kind of wall, and shrunk her voice back in recoil. I dunno what it is, it's not that she is incapable with that voice of hers, she just never seems to carry it all the way through, giving it all.

Here is a classic piece, and beautifully matched in feeling to some images that are devastating.

This piece is so incredibly expressive and was brilliantly interpreted in Baraka.

It brought me to my knees a long time back, and emptied me. At the end of it, I finally understood something (a glimpse) that I had read before but I hadn't really fully understood at that time (paraphrased): "Alchemists do not cry (anymore)".

Thank you for this thread. It's been a welcomed re-capitulation.

Thank you, Azur, for your thoughtful and sensitive comments. And thank you for sharing the YouTube link to the beautiful "Host of Seraphim" with the accompanying images. In the alchemy of this singer's pure and expressive heart, all is transmuted.

Thank you, Parallax. That was wonderful!

Here's an interesting video interview:
