sadistic treatment of cattle in Indonesia

The Force is Strong With This One
Hi folks,

One of the top stories in both the Australian and Indonesian media for the past two days has been the expose on cruelty in the Indonesian slaughter industry towards cattle sent there by Australia. This was aired on Australian television on Monday night (May 30th). There has been a HUGE public outrage and exports have been suspended to 11+ Indonesian slaughterhouses. A full investigation is underway and several private bills have already slated for presentation in Parliament to ban the sale of cattle to Indonesia entirely. Diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Australia have been put under stain because of this suspension. This has been a huge story.

What I am extremely surprised about is that this story has not been mentioned at all on sott.net.
Can anyone please explain why?

Thanks!

I think the reason that sott.net has not mentioned the story could be because continents outside of Europe and America do not get a lot of our news in those countries, so it is up to the forum members to bring these items to the attention of sott, as you have done, so they can follow up as need be.

Also lets not forget that the 'bad guys' in all of this are the exporters of live cattle, knowing full well what the customs and rituals are of their customers, but of course these people are the big 'ranchers' and land owners, the extreme right wing folk, making huge profits, with lots of influence over the PTB and the media barons, why rock their boat?

This is true. When there is a story that you might think would be good to have on sott, remember to post the link to it. Then the editors can check it out to see if it will fit with the mandate of the site.

The more eyes and ears, the better!

Thanks for those replies.
As to the ones to blame for the cruelty, I think you need to watch the original program that went to air. The Indonesian slaughter workers "claimed" they were killing the cattle according to the practice of 'halal' but the film shows anything but halal. Their behaviour was sadistic, there was nothing at all connected to halal, and even the Islamic religious organisation in Indonesia has labelled their behaviour "a sin" and has called on the Indonesian govt to push through animal welfare legislation urgently. The same has been called for by Carrefour (Sumatra's largest supermarket chain which is French owned) and the Indonesian cattle industry.

Have a look at the program - but it is very distressing!!

I take everybody's word for it that the contents of that video are extremely distressing to watch. I for one know I'd be unable to stomach it. Just the textual descriptions alone are enough to send shivers of revulsion through me. The whole thing highlights cruelty at all levels of the process -- from the authorities in Australia who knew how bad conditions were, to those doing the actual torturing of the poor animals.

The scariest part is those cattle are not different to the average John or Jane Smith, totally at the mercy of 4th Density STS beings who abuse them for emotional food and feed off them sadistically. Worse more, people are not even aware of it, and it often continues throughout the life of the victim, many who have memories of experiences which they believe show aliens who love them and are trying to help them! It really is the story of the Evil Magician tricking his cattle.

For this parallel, it is worth publishing the story on SOTT. People are enraged at the treatment of cows, how would they feel if they knew their family underwent WORSE treatment again and again without knowledge or conscious consent???!!!

Scary.

Cruelty to animals does not just happen in Indonesia only. Watch Earthlings to see what I mean. :(

Dr Spock, thank you for posting the link to that video. Just finished watching it. It was on of the saddest films I have seen in my life. Can anyone watch that and say that mankind are kind? Maybe we should say Mancruel? Based on that it is easy to say man deserves what they are getting. We cannot complain about fairness.

It was a real eye-opener for me, thank you.

It leads to the issue of the low-carb high (animal) fat diet many support . . . but that is another issue, I guess.

Yes, cruelty is in too many places (makes me embarrassed to call myself 'human'). One of the things I found so heartwrenching is that these huge brahman cattle, as powerful a size as they are, are so docile and made no attempts to fight back or attack their attackers - which would have been refreshing actually to see one of those sob's get his karmic return!!!
For all its bad behaviour towards itself and all other life forms on the planet, homo sapiens deserves to be wiped out!

What is interesting about this expose is that Indonesia has been sitting on animal welfare legislation since 2009 and not done anything about implementing it. They have good reason now to move forward MUCH FASTER. It also puts other nations receiving Australian cattle on notice that they could be next. I know it is only a drop in the bucket of what needs to be stopped, but at least it is one move in the right direction - only about another 6 billion wrongs to right!

I'll watch your Earthlings video another time. My "hate-o-meter" is in the red zone at the moment.

Cheers.

I've seen "Earthlings" (which was translated in french by "terriens") two years ago with my wife and kids and still today many pictures are haunting my mind! :barf:
It's indeed reality but I won't advise anybody (who desire to begin the low-carb diet) to look at it
I mean these crual treatments (I witnessed in my neighbourhood) led me to become vegetarian 20 years ago

Thanks Don Diego.

I became a 'veggiehead' 37 years ago because of this sort of thing. I have engaged already in some discussions in the forum about whether eating animals is bad or not and I understand the case being presented that some animal material is necessary for the brain. However ......

My bottom line with it is that so long as folks continue to buy meat that has been produced in these cruel and sadistic ways, then the industry will continue. If you want to eat meat that is from animals that are well treated and killed humanely, then you have to DEMAND it from the shops you buy from, DEMAND it of the producers. Look for the organic/ethical producer and buy only from them. If there are none in your market area, then DEMAND somebody starts one. If the meat comes from the mechanised and unregulated mass-producer, then DON'T BUY IT. Write a letter to the shop or the producer to tell them WHY you aren't going to buy their product anymore - until they change their ways. I'm not saying to stop eating meat - I'm saying to boycott a "bad product" so that the industry will change and a "good product" might become available.

Another factor that I think has been overlooked is the emergence of all these bacterial 'super bugs' that are treatment resistant. Certainly from USA mass producers at least, those animals are injected with antibiotics constantly just to keep them alive - so the eaters of that product are also taking in antibiotics constantly. Is it no wonder that bacteria are evolving to become stronger to get over that induced resilience to antibiotics? If the medicos want to understand why 'superbugs' are getting worse and what they can do to stop the influx, they need to be pointing their fingers at the meat industry for their answers.

Cheers.
