Sakurajima‬ volcano / Sendai nuclear power plant

Sakurajima‬ volcano is located about 50km ( 31miles ) from the Sendai nuclear power plant.

Residents near the Sakurajima volcano on Kyushu, Japan’s southernmost main island, evacuated to safer places Saturday after the government raised its alert level to 4 on a 5-point scale, indicating a major eruption could be imminent.

Level 4 is the highest ever for Sakurajima, located just 4 kilometres away from the centre of the major southern port city of Kagoshima, since the current volcanic alert system was launched in 2007.

Kyushu Electric Power's Sendai nuclear power plant, which Tuesday became the first to be rebooted under tighter safety rules adopted in the wake of the 2011 Fukushima nuclear plant disaster, is located just 50km from the volcano. No abnormality has been reported so far at the plant.

Earthquakes, volcanoes, NPPs, oh my. Ya think they'll get the message that Japan should not have restarted those reactors? If not this quake, the next. If not this eruption, the next. Will Sendai be next or will one of the others surprise us? Japan should put that geo-thermal energy to work. How many NPPs need to meltdown before they stop creating nuclear messes?
Japan banks loaned Japan’s nuclear power cartel money to keep personnel and technology going these four and a half years and they want a return on that investment. TEPCO will be splitting into different corporations, separating the nuclear/cleanup from other more profitable assets. The bad corporation will then go bankrupt leaving the taxpayer to foot the bill for the cleanup of Fukushima Daiichi.
The Japanese Meteorological Agency said:
“The possibility for a large-scale eruption has become extremely high for Sakurajima.” warning an evacuation of the city of just over 600,000 people may be necessary.
Before the alert level was raised to 4 by the Meteorological Agency, it had been set at 3, which restricts entry to the mountain area. When it was raised, the Kagoshima Municipal Government issued an evacuation advisory for areas near the mountain, affecting 77 residents. All of them had left the area by Saturday evening.
On Saturday, residents near Sakurajima evacuated to safer places after the government raised the alert level to 4 on a 5-point scale, indicating a major eruption could be imminent.
Level 4 is the highest ever for Sakurajima — which is located just 4 km across the water from the major port city of Kagoshima — since the current volcanic alert system was launched in 2007.
Seismic activity began increasing dramatically Saturday morning and data showed swelling of the mountain, the agency said.
There were 1,023 volcanic earthquakes at Mount Sakurajima, a popular tourist attraction, on Saturday. Although the number fell to 71 Sunday and 11 as of 9 a.m. Monday.

Just the ash fall from a minor eruption could cause transportation/access difficulties, clogged cooling, and health risks. I’m afraid that the nuclear cartel has found it more profitable to let a NPP melt out and let the taxpayer pay for decommission/cleanup costs than to finance a proper decommissioning out of their pocket.
Foolish me, I thought they understood how bad nuclear fire burning out of containment would be. They promised it would never happen and they promise it will never happen again.

Why was the Sendai nuclear power plant restarted?
http://thebulletin.org/why-was-sendai-nuclear-power-plant-restarted8644

This is the first restart of any of Japan’s 43 operable commercial reactors since Fukushima, and it is happening despite many unresolved questions concerning nuclear safety regulations. When it comes to safety, the Sendai nuclear power plant is definitely not at the head of the class: The utility owning the power plant was given a pass despite a very problematic history. (At one point, a regulatory commissioner called the plan to restart Sendai “wishful thinking”.)

A three-pointed rationalization. The justification for a restart was based upon three key points: the type of reactors to be used at Sendai were considered inherently “safer;” the chance of a similar natural disaster(s) was considered to be minimal; and the concerns of the local communities were dismissed as inconsequential.

The real reasons for the restart. The decision to restart the reactor at Sendai is probably based upon the “dismal science:” economics.
It seems that financial considerations and worries about the health of the national and local economies triumphed over safety concerns; an article in the Japan Times says that when Kyushu Electric tried to turn to other means of generating electricity—such as thermal power—its costs more than doubled. “The huge costs have weighed heavily on its earnings. The company is aiming to shore up its earnings by reactivating idled nuclear power reactors. Kyushu Electric expects that the restart of the Sendai Number 1 reactor will save the company about 7.5 billion yen (over $60 million) per month.”
Read the full article for the details. My eyes are on Sendai, the first of many restarts. Restarting an idled NPP without problems is also wishful thinking.

But when you learn how this banking thing works, it's all meaningless... completely meaningless entries in a bookkeeping journal... left and right hand... like all of life, they emerge simultaneously together... thus, they can be written off just as easily, especially now that most of it has been brought in-house... as the central banks have bought up all the 'bad debt'... it makes a 'debt jubilee' quite easy... just write off the bookkeeping entries.... zero them out... reset.... The resistance seems to be in that this means giving up your gains, even if, in reality they are deep loses... those in command and control can't 'let go' or they are admitting failure... they are trying to graduate to the 'dark side' after all and that requires 95% self centeredness..... so they keep trying to do the impossible, but all most of them are doing is preparing the groundfloor for those above them.

Japan is in the same boat as the reset of Western civilization... the fascists have moved back out of the closet and are trying to return to open expression in their culture, but are having a few difficulties, given all the obstacles setup in the years since their last fall from power. It would seem that the recent fall in the price of oil is a good thing for their import concerns, but restarting those nuc plants would do better along that measure, and when have fascist minded individuals concerned themselves with the will of the people... some thing they think they can always manipulate... which is usually possible, but they are fighting themselves without knowing it apparently, and the next election cycle might just prove that.. depending upon the other parties of course and if the market collapses beforehand and forces them out of office yet again.... everything is pushing towards reset... not just those reactors....

Hi gdpetti, sure agree, all is heading for a reset. Enjoy reading your economic outlook posts. Market lost 600 pts. today. An economic reset will make NPP sitting time bombs, resources wasted keeping them cool for generations. When you look at the economics of nuclear power it becomes clear that military interests keep it going not profitability. The covert WW3 comes out swinging to cover the tracks of the elite. Are all 3d STS classrooms this bad or did we work extra hard to get here?

Eos,
We’re still here learning our lessons. We got here because most people walk down the STS path working hard to satisfy the beast. Some see the one way dead end rocky road ahead and look for a better way. A few may get together, comparing notes, networking, waking up to do what should have been done.
As this ‘service to self’ world is on the eve of destruction yet again:
‘Service to self’; rejoice in the destruction of the others that keep you from having it all. You will own and control all that remains of this world.
‘Service to others’ candidates, remember what you have learned so you don’t have to repeat the same suffering over and over again. Rejoice in new lessons to learn.
Earth changes are a surprise to our scientific community, our map of the territory is inadequate. Solar activity followers are predicting another possible flare heading our way, a possible trigger for yet another quaking or eruption. The evacuation was lifted, for now, and the tourists are all welcome back.

Yes horse, we are learning, experiencing, identifying, interpreting, playing the game of life...
Awaking to the others, which are the real I, or dreaming into the self, which is nothingness.
Aware in the present, but living mostly in the past and probably coming from the already realized future, who knows what, when, where ?
The truth can't be otherwise than paradoxical it seems, anyway quite impossible to see or to tell in its infinite nature.
Nevertheless we are doing our best to reach what is unreachable; that is the beauty of life somehow.
