Hi all, I know i don't post often, and normally i deal with with my feelings and fears on my own or with close non-vitural friends, but today is a little different. My closest long time friend is, at this very moment, in the belly of the beast. He works at the school where this is taking place.

Mostly from being here, i have learned some non-anticipation and breath control and other very useful things that have been a great help in keeping my head and heart clear, and I am very grateful for that, but today i got a knot in my gut that i haven't felt for quite some time.
My friend does read SoTT and is aware of the "drill/incident" connection...and he does have good situational awareness, but knowing that is not currently quelling this feeling i'm having. Also, he's not a teacher, so he won't be stuck in a classroom when the Pavlovian conditioning / fear porn takes place. He has a plan in mind...on the hide or flee option he's placing himself downstairs in a maintenance area, close to the stadium designated as the "safe" zone....and still, I'm scared ( two words that rarely pass my lips....)
One other thing, that's probably a bit paranoid on my part, is that the school got a new president at the end of last year, who my friend told me is a bit stand-offish, a cold fish so to speak. He moved to Lancaster from Alexandria, Va ...spook capital of the west :O....its a tenuous connection, i know, but it sure ain't helping this knot thing. I know it may be anticipatory to do this, but i've asked the DCM to send some awareness and protection his way this morning. I'll report back...(if it don't go wrong... cause if it does it'll be on the national fear porn news...)
Thanks for listening, Dave.

A shooting that left nine people dead at an Oregon community college last year got Lancaster Catholic High School senior Sara Kashatus thinking — could something like that happen at her school? And if it did, would anyone know what to do?
She brought up the subject with her mom, Ann Harach, who works in the emergency management field.
Harach contacted a school official about her daughter's concerns, setting in motion months of planning that will culminate at the school today with a massive training event involving local, state and federal agencies.
An armed intruder drill will test the emergency plans and preparedness of Lancaster Catholic staff and students, as well as the procedures of the 911 center, first responders and police.
Eighty to 90 members of fire, EMS and law-enforcement will participate in the exercise which will take place before lunch.
Several surrounding streets will be closed during the drill and motorists may experience some traffic delays.
Students know the exercise will take place this morning but don't know exactly what time. Kashatus said she didn't help plan the drill and will take part in the exercise just like the rest of her schoolmates.
It will begin with an "armed" person entering the school and students being alerted to shots fired in the building, according to Duane Hagelgans, of Millersville University's Center for Disaster Research and Education.
"The whole goal is, we want them to do what they would do if it was a real emergency. If you would run, run. If you would hide, hide," Hagelgans said, adding that there is no "script" to how the event develops.
Students and staff can even call 911 if that's what they're inclined to do.
County dispatchers are prepared to answer calls and texts from Lancaster Catholic this morning. Students and staff are to use certain words during the calls to alert the dispatcher that the call is part of the drill, Hagelgans said. They also have been given a "safe" word to use in the event of a real emergency.
Dispatchers will take calls related to the drill unless it becomes overwhelming, at which point, "We'll pull the plug (on that part)," Hagelgans said, adding that the exercise will not affect normal 911 operations.
He said the exercise is the largest of its kind ever carried out in the region. Members of the South Central Task Force, for which Harach serves as a planning specialist, have been planning the drill with school officials for eight months.
"The most important part of this is to make sure students, staff and faculty are prepared if a terrible event like this happens someday," Kevin Carver, LCHS public relations and marketing director said.
"We want to make sure everyone, from students and staff to police to the 911 center, is on the same page," Carver said. "The point is so we can learn what went great and what didn't go so well."
He said students, parents and staff were made aware of the event several months ago. An assembly was held last week to discuss the drill more in-depth with students.
"I don't think, until that point, they really understood the scale of this," Carver said. "I don't think they really grasped that this is big time. There are a lot of pieces at work here and we're looking forward to seeing how it all plays out."
For Kashatus, she humbly admitted to feeling good about putting the event in motion.
"My mom and I talk about this stuff a lot. She's told me when and how to break a window and which way to run if I need to get away," Kashatus said.
"Me, personally, I feel prepared but I like that other people will know what to do now too."
