search for a book about myths

I'm looking for a good book about ancient myths from Greece, Egypt, Roman, etc. But I would like to read one that had no expert explanation of the myths, just the myths plain and simple.
So, what I would like to ask is if someone knows a good book (or what is the best one, most complete, best translation from the originals, etc) that corresponds with the before written description.

Thanks in advance.

I thought about finding something in the net, but the thing is I really can't read a lot in a PC monitor, because it tires the eyesight a lot. Of course I could always print it, but that would have it's costs in black ink cartridge.
But thanks anyway Vulcan59.

Hi Green. :)

To find a book that's just the stories and not the scholarly works, have you tried looking in teen or young adult sections of the library? That's where I started learning about the differences between Classical Greek and Roman mythology.

If you're interested in original sources check this out on amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Anthology-Classical-Myth-Translation-Translations/dp/0872207218/ref=pd_sim_b_4

It looks ok. Any amazon search should pop up all sorts of titles you can look for locally or get through an inter library loan.

Hope that helps.

Hi Green_Manalishi,

Has your monitor got a filter screen? They really do filter out a lot of the glare, although you are right, reading page after page of on-line text can make the eyes tired (if it's a long time, my eyes end up feeling like those cartoon eyes that just spiral around and around!)

Although this most definitely isn't what you asked for, here are a couple of good links that you can browse through at least, until you can find your book:

'Myths and Legends' _http://home.comcast.net/~chris.s/myth.html

'Encyclopaedia Mythica' _http://www.pantheon.org/

and a little something supplementary:

'The Origins of Myth' _http://www.thunderbolts.info/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=245

Have a good read - and keep the eyedrops handy! ;D

Jenny March's "Dictionary of Classical Mythology" by Cassell Publishing. It's a good book for those rainy days inside.

Good reviews on Amazon too.
