Secret Team pushing buttons for Turkey?

Since the summer, government tries to give certain rights to Kurds, or claims it will. I was and still am skeptical about it, thinking this pathocratic government wouldn't give anything to anybody if there is no benefit for them.

Kurdistan Worker's Party has another party in the parliment called DTP, Democratic Society Party. There was a trial whether DTP should be closed or not since it threathens the "Indivisible unity of the nation and land" as nationalists put it.

Since last week, there were many attacks to police stations in certain cities all over the Turkey, not just Eastern Turkey. There were demonstrations, clashes with police etc. One of the most tragic case was a girl who died because of a Molotov cocktail thrown in a bus.

Serap Eser, 17, who had been injured in early November by a Molotov cocktail attack on a municipal bus, died early Monday at a hospital where she had been receiving treatment since the incident.

The attack took place on an unlit street in İstanbul’s Küçükçekmece district; Eser was heading home from a Student Selection Examination (ÖSS) course. Her face and body were badly burned and she was rushed to Bağcılar State Research and Training Hospital.

Hospital officials had previously reported that Eser was improving, but later said that she had gone into a coma after her burns became infected with the Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. She was kept under observation in a private room with a team of seven doctors, including surgeons, caring for her round the clock.

Seven people suspected of responsibility for the Molotov cocktail attack were detained on Nov. 27 in an operation targeting members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). The detainees are reportedly around 18 years old.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reacted harshly to the participation of minors in illegal demonstrations, using Eser’s tragic experience as an example, in an opening ceremony he attended this weekend. He said: “Who made those children throw Molotov cocktails? Who put Serap in this troubled situation? Is not she a child? How can you explain this? You portray one side as the victim. How will you show the other child, who was burned with Molotov cocktails, on the other hand?” Eser’s body was sent to the Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) for autopsy. She will be buried today following a funeral prayer.

DTP and PKK said they have nothing to do with this kind of attack, they don't target civilians, and they condemned the attacks. They claimed it is provocation. On the other hand, the whole country is blaming them.

As those events started to happen, there were attacks to the soldiers as well.

Seven soldiers were killed on Monday in the Reşadiye district of the central province of Tokat after Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorists opened fire on soldiers patrolling a rural area in the district.

At least three soldiers were wounded in the attack. One of the wounded was in critical condition and was taken to a hospital in Tokat, while two were hospitalized at Reşadiye State Hospital. Clashes between security forces and soldiers were reportedly ongoing by the time Today’s Zaman went to print. Reşadiye Mayor Rafet Erden told Turkish broadcasters that more security forces were sent to the area where the clash occurred. “We extend our condolences to the families of the slain soldiers. May they rest in peace,” he stated. The bloody attack came at a critical point as the Constitutional Court was preparing to hear a closure case against the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party (DTP).

The party has refused to label the PKK a terrorist party despite encouragement from Turkish politicians.

PKK supporters have launched a series of demonstrations across the country since last week over DTP claims about a “smaller and low-standard” prison cell for the jailed leader of the PKK, Abdullah Öcalan.

Öcalan is serving a life sentence on İmralı Island, located off the coast of İstanbul. He was the sole inmate until recently, but eight other convicts have now been transferred to the island, and he was placed in a different cell.

Throughout last week there was controversy about the prison conditions of the terrorist leader. His lawyers claimed that a new cell built for Öcalan is six-and-a-half square meters, compared to the old cell’s 12 square meters. The new cell’s window is reportedly too high to look through unassisted. The Justice Ministry denied the claims in a statement last week. The ministry underlined that the quality of Öcalan’s new cell was much higher than standards set for inmates by the EU and the UN.

Those events will cause the further destabilization of Turkey, I hope they don't escalate too much. I am afraid of nationalist fanatics doing something stupid that may cause more bloodshed. :( I have read yesterday that Nationalist Movement Party will start demonstrations. I can guess what their subject is going to be.

Well, as of today, DTP is closed.

Constitutional Court closes pro-Kurdish DTP over ties to PKK

The Constitutional Court on Friday banned the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party (DTP) on charges of having links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

The court also decided to ban several DTP members, including party leader Ahmet Türk, from participating in a political party for five years.

Kılıç said 37 DTP members, including DTP Chairman Ahmet Türk and MP Aysel Tuğluk were banned from politics for five years.

Legislators Türk and Tuğluk will also be expelled from the Parliament after court ruling is published in the Official Gazette.

Chief Public Prosecutor Abdurrahman Yalçınkaya filed a lawsuit at the Constitutional Court on November 16, 2007, asking the closure of DTP since it allegedly became a center of acts against Turkey's inseparable unity.

Founded in 2005, the DTP has currently 21 seats at the parliament. The party won 2009 local elections in nine provinces as Diyarbakır, Batman, Hakkari, Iğdır, Siirt, Şırnak, Tunceli, Bingöl and Van.

Years ago, Ataturk said "How happy are those who call themselves Turk!" I don't know if he foresee any of the implications of such a sentence, but the effects of that sentence destroy the very foundation of "democracy" Ataturk established. Today, I have nothing to say, but this: How happy are those who live in democratic states! I certainly do not!!!

DTP has an option right now. They have 21 seats, if all of them resigns, and if they can find another person to resign with them(which could be Ufuk Uras, a DTP supporter), there would be 28 seats empty in the parliment. According to constitution, this means an early election. Of course resignation of those members isn't easy, it requires a majority of votes in that particular session. This is hard to achieve without other parties' support, but who knows, maybe some of them want an early election.

I guess we will wait and see what happens next.
