Self styled guru lures women

Michael Lyons masqueraded as a healer before raping them. He even recruited young charming women to help get next victims he would do health treatments and this led to abuse. He persuaded some they had been caused by parents. I was looking for a healer recently and realised how dangerous the whole counselling healing could be if you are vulnerable anyway. You run the risk of exposing yourself. There is not much regulation.

A man masquerading as a guru and healer was helped by female followers to rape other women, a court has been told.

Michael Lyons, who used the name Mohan Singh, created a cult-like atmosphere and took advantage of women by offering bogus health treatments, jurors heard.

Wood Green Crown Court heard how he surrounded himself with "young, charming" women who told others that he could change their lives.

Lyons, 52, of Kilburn, north London, denies five counts of rape.

Prosecutor Philip Katz QC said the alleged victims were all vulnerable women and were sucked into Mr Lyons' group, reassured by the presence of other females.
"He is a sexual predator masquerading as a guru and a healer," said Mr Katz.

"He has for many years now been at the centre of a group of followers, overwhelmingly women, some of whom have been part of his circle for many years.

"The prosecution allege that this group has actually been operating as a kind of cult.

"Some of the existing members were actually actively helping to create opportunities for this defendant to take sexual advantage of new recruits," he said.

'Menacing e-mail'

The women were drawn in with claims that Mr Lyons had worked for the Dalai Lama and he would drive them around in expensive cars, the jury heard.

Those who left the group received menacing e-mail and text messages from other members, it is alleged.

Mr Lyons is accused of five counts of rape, two of sexual assault by touching and one by penetration. The allegations involve seven women and are dated between 1998 and 2008.

The case continues.

Hi Piranah,

Maybe next time try to post a link to a relevant article so it is easier for other people to know what you're talking about ;)

Counselling, healing and so on, in any field, can be dangereous because of the number of psychopathic/narcissistic characters attracted to such "place of power" over people.
So it is necessary for everybody to really know how these people behave and operate as to avoid falling into their clutches, that's where networking and healing your own narcissistic wounds is important osit.

You say these professions will attract potential abusers. I have done a counselling course. I have also had three different counsellors. They varied widely. One hugged me which i thought odd. When you go through there sessions you are very open very exposed. A clever narcisstic personality will see the ones he can use. Michael mohan was obviously a dangerous personality. I want to find a family counsellor to help get to bottom me our family issues. What is best way to find one and how do you find one who understands narcisstic families.

Hi Piranah

finding a therapist varies from country to country, sadly in the UK almost any one can call themselves a 'therapist' and open their doors to potentially vulnerable people.

A good place to start is often at your doctors surgery, in the UK for example there is a register, at the British Ass. of Counselling and psychotherapy - another good place to look -

HI Piranah,

I did not mean to imply that all Counsellors are like this fellow in the article of course ;)
I just think that if people where more aware of such characters and how they operate they would probably avoid falling in such predator's jaws osit.
