I think it is no accident that political articles, vast majority of which were more or less leaning towards conspiracies and questioning of government, predominated that website. It is most likely no accident that the team asked people to go back to sleep and instead practice some intellectual masturbation, as you so aptly put. It makes sense that if the majority of readers are in fact interested in posting and shouting and participating in political discussions, and the website owners want support what the majority desires, they should allow politics to remain as the most importan subjet matter. So it seems likely to me that some external pressure was applied on the owners of the website, because some of those articles were hitting too close to "home". Some of them, for example, were articles written by Joe from the SOTT team (so reposted from the SOTT website into shoutwire), which almost instantly shot up to number one space on the front page. It is pretty clear what the majority of users think and what direction they wish to go. So the big question is, if this is what the vast majority of their users want, what possible reason could they have to tell this majority to do something else. Why would you tell the majority to do what the minority wants? That makes no sense to me. So the only thing I can come up with is, they're being pressured by someone to change the subject matter.
There are already plenty of agents that actively participate in discussions there, trying to use every pathocratic tactic to lead astray and confuse and distort and manipulate. It seems that if this new suggested change of direction does nothing to change anything, the owners of shoutwire may begin to take a more active role in vectoring the discussion, like AboveTopSecret owners. Either way, it'll be interesting to see what transpires. I posted my comment right under yours.
