'Show unread posts since last visit' function

The Living Force
For some reason, this function seems to be working sporadically for me today -- I will click on it and it will show that there are no unread messages, but I can scan down the main board and see messages that have been posted that I know I haven't read yet. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Shijing,

For me there seem no problems. The symptom you described can be caused by many factors.
1. If it was caused by server side, then all users will experience the symptom.
2. If it is specific to you, then main factors I can think of are:
2-a. Your browser (which browser are you using?) is having memory problem, in that case you can clear the cache (and if you can restart the blower).
2-a-FireFox case: I think there is some known issues for FireFox that cause this symptom which I experienced before, I believe that upgrading to the new version fixed it.
2-b. Your Internet connection has been slow down for some reason, in this case you can check with other Web page if you experience the same. You may need to report/call your Internet provider.

I hope this check lists can give some hints to solve the problem.

Added: Later I realized that it seems I did not understand what he meant by "sporadically" well. So the check list above was more in general sense when a link on a Web page is not responding correctly or too slow.

This has happened to me in the past if I logged in to the forum, and then for some reason while reading new posts had to leave the computer for a couple of hours. In that situation, I think their is a timeout function in the forum software, where if you don't do anything on the forum for a certain amount of time it will drop all those unread posts. That one is a little annoying, because I know when I log in that I have to have enough time to read all the new posts, lest I "lose" them from the unread posts page and have to search down the main page for them individually. The same thing has happened to me on the "Show new replies" page as well.

When that happens, as soon as you have finished to read the "Show unread posts since last visit", you click on that sentence once again to be sure that there is nothing new and if not you will see just a little lower that sentence "No unread topics found since your last visit. Click here to try all unread topics." So click where it is said "Click here to try all unread topics" and you will have all the posts that you have not read.

Hopes it helps.

It happened to me in the past like Heimdallr experienced. Then, I realized it must have a time-out program going on. But, it's fine for me now.

Personally, I chose "View the most recent posts on the forum" feature than the mentioned feature and work my way down the threads. :)

Thanks GotoGo, Heimdallr and Gandalf for your suggestions. I just logged on for the first time today, and so far everything seems to be working fine. I didn't leave my computer for an extended period of time last night, so I don't think it was a time-out issue, and I'm using Firefox right now, so that could be a possibility. If I have this problem again, I will try Gandalf's advice below and see if that does it:
